    hi,

i work in childcare, and get paid by the hour.

we have had to have a few staff meetings after normal working hours and i was just wondering is there some sort of law about these being paid or getting time back?

also as we are paid by the hour, i regularly have to work for extra time as its really busy and NEVER get the time back but if you are 2 minutes late into work they dock your pay. is this normal? i am getting really furstrated as this week alone that has added up to 2 hours and its only wednesday!

If you were getting paid "by the hour" presumably you'd get paid for the hours worked. It sounds like the opposite - you're on a set wage regardless of the hours worked.

Were you supplied with a written contract, and if so, does it clarify this matter?

I work in retail and it works like this for me too. If you are between 0.00001 and 15 mins late, you get docked for 15 minutes, and if you clock out after the shop has "closed" you don't get paid extra.

i am definitly paid per unit worked, therefore by the hour. the company doesnt add anything past the normal work hours onto our pay though

so for example i am working 7.30 to 4.30 at the moment, i have had to stay till 5 every evening this week and will not be paid for the extra half hour.

last week i worked 20 minutes extra every day

i do not get have a choice on whether i work the extra time or not, as we get disciplinary action if we leave the room over ratio.

i was just wondering my options in this situation

What did your manager say when you asked him/her when you could expect to be paid for the extra hours you worked?
