Smackdown kicks off with Booker T entering the ring for his big announcement. Sheamus, Randy Orton, Dolph Ziggler, The Great Khali, Kane and Daniel Bryan are in the ring for the announcement. Alberto Del Rio is shown outside with a bat waiting for The Big Show. Booker starts to announce that they will compete in the Elimination Chamber, but gets interrupted by Jack Swagger. Swagger says that he wants in the Chamber match, even though there are only 6 spots. Ziggler says he already has a guaranteed shot and that he isn't competing in the Chamber. Booker T said that Ziggler can chicken out of the Chamber match, but he can't chicken out of his match with Alberto Del Rio tonight. As for the others, they have to impress Booker and Teddy Long to gain a spot.

    * Rey Mysterio & Sin Cara vs. WWE Tag Team Champions Team Hell No is our first match of the night. Kane and Rey start. Rey gets some offense in early on and tags in Sin Cara, who gets dominated by Kane. Daniel Bryan is tagged in and Cara gains the advantage. Fast paced match with the crowd behind Rey and Sin Cara. Late in the nmatch, Kane is working over Sin Cara and tagged in Bryan, while Cara made the hot tag to Rey. Rey got in some offense on Bryan and set him up for a 619, but Kane tried to block it with a chokeslam. Rey kicked Kane out of the ring, and Bryan locked in the No Lock. Sin Cara broke it up, Rey hit the 619 on Bryan and gets the win. Team Hell No argued after the match. Said to be a great match.

A video recap of Alberto Del Rio and Big Show from The Royal Rumble and RAW is shown.

Matt Striker attempts to interview Del Rio outside, who is still waiting with a bat. Del Rio said that he was getting fresh air and told Striker to leave him alone.

A recap of the 3MB - Great Khali segment from RAW is shown.

    * Jinder Mahal (with Drew McIntyre and Heath Slater) vs. The Great Khali (with Natalya and Hornswoggle) is next. 3MB tried to interfere, but Hornswoggle blocked that. Khali destroyed Mahal in a short match.

Backstage segment with Booker T and Teddy Long discussing Jack Swagger's return, and Teddy Long revealed that it was his idea. Team Rhodes Scholars interrupted and quoted something, and then hugged for a long time. Booker makes Sheamus vs. Damien Sandow for later tonight, and then said, "you're welcome."

A recap of the Vince McMahon - Paul Heyman segment from RAW was shown, which was the same package shown on Main Event.

Del Rio is shown out back still waiting.

A recap of John Cena winning the Rumble, deciding on which title to go after and then getting attacked by The Shield is shown.

    * Damien Sandow vs. Sheamus is in progress. It looks like the Shield might interrupt this match as extra security was just set up near the side they usually come through, plus some camera men headed that way. Sandow took the early advantage. Sheamus fought back and started to dominate when the Shield entered and attacked Sheamus. Rollins is in first, but gets laid out by Sheamus. Shield beat him down and then planted him with the triple power bomb. The hits were hard, and Rollins sold well. The Shield then left through the crowd.

A recap is shown of Wade Barrett losing to Bo Dallas on RAW.

    * Wade Barrett vs. Randy Orton. Barrett dominated early. He sat Orton on the middle rope and kicked him off it to the outside. Cool move. Outside of the ring, Barrett missed a forearm into a pole. Orton put him in the ring and hit an RKO for the victory.

Backstage Wade Barrett is being interviewed about losing to Bo Dallas, but says nothing. Barrett sees Dallas and attacks him. Dallas fights back, but Barrett throws him into gear.

    * Kofi Kingston vs. Jack Swagger. Swagger dominated Kofi early on using wrestling moves. Kofi kept trying to find back, but Swagger kept putting him back down. Kofi finally is able to knock Swagger down and hits the Boom Drop. Swagger fights back, but Kofi sends him out of the ring. They fight outside with Kofi missing a kick and accidentally kicking the announce table. Swagger then rolled Kofi in the ring and defeated him via submission with the ankle lock. Swagger looked good, it looks like he'll be getting pushed.

Back outside, and Del Rio hides as The Big Show's bus pulls in. Big Show gets out and Del Rio attacks him. Show tries to get away and attempts to climb on top of a car. Del Rio breaks the window and they fight on top of the car. The play a game of chase around the car before Show gets in another car and drives off.

A recap of The Rock - CM Punk segment from RAW is shown.

    * Alberto Del Rio vs. Dolph Ziggler. This was said to be really good. The crowd was hot for Ziggler early on. Early in the match, Del Rio was on the top rope but AJ Lee distracted the referee and Big E pushed Del Rio to the mat. The referee then ejected AJ and Big E, but the distraction put Ziggler in control of the match. Ziggler kept control for awhile until Del Rio managed to catch him on the top rope and superplexed him. The crowd is behind Del Rio, who plants a side kick to Ziggler's face. Ziggler kicked out and countered Del Rio's arm lock and hit a famasser, but Del Rio kicked out. Del Rio hit a backbreaker, but Ziggler kicked out. Del Rio jumped off the top rope, but Ziggler caught him in the air with a drop kick. The crowd started chanting, "this is awesome!" Del Rio eventually locked in the arm bar to get the win.

As Del Rio celebrated, Big Show is shown backstage holding Ricardo by the neck and then delivered the KO punch. Del Rio rushed backstage and Ricardo is knocked out. The show ended at this point.

    SWAGGA IS BACK!

WWE fecking loves to put Khali the Chamber don't they?

How long do we give Swaggers push?

    3 weeks?

Anyway, I presume it's for a title shot at Mania? In which case, I'd imagine Sheamus or Orton are winning it...

Excited to see the Hell No and Del Rio matches.

Hopefully they find a way to get Ziggler into the Cell, he could conjure up some more silly bumps. He's a real workhorse these days.

so the EC match is just for a title shot this year?
will that mean we'll have Del Blando Vs Big Slow Part 3?

Wasting a spot on Khali, same as the rumble. Yes he's huge and they'll all team up to blah blah blah. the guy can barely walk its not entertaining to see him in the ring, his knees are wrecked.

And he's giving them a ton of views in India and hence will keep on getting spot time; he's not there for your happiness but for India's :P

So if the EC is for a title shot and Show/del Rio will be for the title what will the Smackdown title match end up being?

Of the proposed entrants to the chamber Bryan vs del Rio could be a great match. They need some workrate to go with the big proposed main events. At the very least we'd get a ten minute Mania sprint and a really good rematch at Extreme Rules the following months.

Given Swaggers return and how he took Ziggler's place, it wouldn't shock me to see Ziggler and Swagger involved in the same match. Maybe have those two, Del Rio and Big Show in a Four Way? Ziggler cashes in and wins the title at EC, Swagger wins the EC, Del Rio uses his rematch clause and Big Show just forces his way into the match?

Was hoping for maybe a Ziggler/Jericho match at Mania as well myself.

I thought Del Rio and Show would be in SD's EC match and it would be for the title

Swagger and Khali in over Rhodes, Sandow, Barrett or Christian :(

If they have both members of Hell No in the EC they'll probably do a break up angle and feud again at Mania. They're already teasing a bit of dissention in the ranks.

They should have then dropped the tag titles at RR maybe they will soon now to Rhodes and Sandow tbh I think it is time to end Team Hell No

I agree Del Rio V Bryan would be great at WM but it will probably be Orton

I really hope they really "Kurt Angle" Swagger. Go the uber intensive serious wrestler route with him. He definitely has the size, crediblity and skill to step it up a notch.

I think its the best you can do with him. I know it might seem petty but the lisp really puts me off with him, I just can't take him seriously! keep him quiet and notch up the intensity and he's someone I could get behind more. He's a talented wrestler, they should accentuate that.

Yeah, its hard to create new stars so it makes sense to use ideas from the past,

Kurt Swagger would fit in well with Hulk Cena, Goldback, Mr Dolph Perfect, Eddie Del Rio and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.

maybe i'm just seeing things but that is what I see in a good few of them!

delighted Swagger finally returned. I thought he was close to leaving when he was off screen for so long.

Good to see Swagger back, but his push aint gonna last if he's the exact same character as he was before he got taken off TV.They could've at least tried something different or hyped his return with mystery vignettes or something, anything!

Looking forward to the tag match, would love to see a Bryan vs Rey feud before Rey gets injured again.

Sandow and Rhodes have split as of this episode.

Thought Swagger was offscreen to be repackaged? Yet he comes back the exact same as when he left.

What way would you like to see the Tag Division go now? I'd like to see the PTP get more TV time, find them funny. Also, I don't mind Sin Cara/ Rey as a babyface team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,500 ✭✭✭✭DEFTLEFTHAND

I think SC and Rey might have a match at Mania this year. They could either turn SC heel or just do a mutual respect angle.

I was hoping Rhodes Scholars would get a run with the belts but I suppose PTP could do with them. I wonder what the future for Team Hell No is once they lose them, Personally I'd like to see Bryan back in singles competition.

Agreed on Bryan, he's far too good to be sharing a ring with a tag partner. What's your opinion on The Usos? Epico and Primo also. Were you disappointed that Tyson Kidd got injured and broke up International Airstrike?

Ziggler and Big E would make good tag champs for a month. Them v Rey and Sin Cara at Mania would be great. Give Ziggler something to do to take the mind off his cash in.

Kruger and Hero could be promoted after Mania to feud with Rey and Cara.

Swagger looked terrible. Has a new hairdo that looks ludicrous. Added to that he has put on a few pounds. It seems they are going down the serious mode with him. Same attire and same entrance set ups. JBL was putting him over big style.

By the sounds of it he will be in the elimination chamber.

Definitely disappointed with Tyson's injury although I fear they wouldn't have pushed them into the title picture anyway. Epico and Primo are probably two of the best workers in the division at the moment, they deserve a push, I know they held the belts last year but that was when they weren't focusing anything on tag. I'd love for the Uso's to get a shot also, it doesn't make sense to me that they keep all these talented wrestlers off their flagship TV.

Jack has an odd body shape, see his ECW debut, so it makes sense to stick with his attire.

I am glad they just hit the reset button and brought him back to his ECW champion persona. He had become a bit of a joke and getting squashed by Ryback summed up his position before his break. Some time out of the eye is probably the best thing to do and may be something WWE do with other talents who got lost in the mix.

I thought that was another very good Smackdown overall. The two hour format means less filler than RAW but the good things on each show are a very similar standard.

The Tag Match was very good and show why WWE need to stick with a tag division. Cara and Rey are a really good combo. It suits Rey to be in a team and it suits Cara to get ring time in the US and hopefully plenty of wins as part of the tag team to keep him strong in people's minds. I love his jump from middle rope, top rope to outside.

The Shield attack was what it always is but serves a good purpose. The other attacks were also effective. Wade on Bo looked viscous.

Del Rio hanging around waiting in Show with a Pipe and a Grip taped on the end was just fantastic. A grip taped onto a pipe like! Loved him screaming in spanish as it showed just how angry he was.

The Wade and Orton match was good as per usual and the finish was really well thought out.

Same for Swagger's return, the ending was genius and protected Kofi from looking bad. Jack looked great and as good as they made him look I think JBL may have been the most impressive thing, he just excels every show.

Didn't get to see the main event yet.

Yeah, I really didn't like his hair style, it looked kinda silly with the beard.

The lisp sadly makes it hard to take him serious as a serious character, so he'd need to be more an "actions speak louder than words" type of wrestler.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,520 Mod ✭✭✭✭DM_7

Is the lisp really a problem?

Everything sounds fine here to me anyway, he can always bat it away if some smart mouth takes the pish (;)) and tell them he leave them unable to talk at all.

Actually, on a side point, has Kofi had those tattoos on his back long? Cause I only noticed them at the Rumble, same with a few of the people I was watching it with.

    I liked Smackdown this week.

Like DM-ICE I enjoyed Del Rio waiting for Show in the parking lot. That was like an old school Smackdown move. It's refreshing to see a babyface that doesn't just go to the ring ando do the standard thing. I thought the match with DZ was very good too.

Swagger's return was interesting. I liked the new aggressive attitude and JBL put him over well. On the downside, I thought his promo was pretty poor and more of the same. I think a manager would be good for him but I can't think of many that are around now who would fit the bill. I would take Jinder out of 3MB and put him as Swagger's manager and do an anti-American thing similar to Daivari and Kurt Angle did about seven or eight years ago. At least that would freshen him up and, unlike Kurt, I feel Swagger could do with a mouthpiece.

Shame Rhodes Scholars is no more but while the focus seems to have fallen on Rhodes, I hope They go back to having Sandow searching for an apprentice. Don't think the thread should have been dropped just because Rhodes came back.

Del Rio wrestling in his ring gear was a silly decision. Good to know that quickly getting changed for a match can subside the anger.
