So im going to build a budget gaming PC, its only going to be used for relatively light gaming on medium settings so im not expecting an absolute beast of a machine for the money im spending, I just want something that will run smoothly and wont give me any hassle :)

    1. What is your budget? 450

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Light gaming, web browsing etc although I have a nice laptop for that :)

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? Nope.

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? Nope.

    5. Do you need a monitor? Im going to use my TV for the moment, but if anyone could point me towards a nice cheap monitor thatd be great.

5a. If yes, what size do you need. Not fussy

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? ....

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? [Keyboard/Mouse/Wireless Card/Card Reader/Speakers/etc.] Yeh I could do with a keyboard and a mouse but again im going cheap on these as its really not something im fussy about.

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? Not really no.

    8. How can you pay? [Bank Transfer/Credit Card/Laser] Laser and Bank Transfer, I think haha....

    9. When are you purchasing? In about 3 weeks, need a few paychecks first ;)

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? Im pretty handy with computers so wont need any :)

Heres a build ive put together myself without a graphics card as I really havent a clue about these  Hence why im coming here, any pointers towards a good one would be appreciated lads

Depends how much you want to spend really

    7870>7850>7770>7750

I'd probably go for the 7850 but its gonna push your budget way over.

You could go for a cheaper AMD build either.

How would you rate the 7770? I kind of want to stick with intel :)

AMD kinda get a bad hype for some apparant reason. The only way that Intel are better is that if games are running at 65 FPS on AMD, you might get 70-75 FPS on Intel, but really it doesn't make a difference overall. AMD's are dam good processors.

I would rate the 7770 fairly well on a budget. You will get 30-40 FPS(or more depending on the game) on any new game that is out at this current time at 1080P on max settings. I don't know how long this graphics card will keep this up for though is the only thing. 30-40 FPS is well playable. 6 months down the line or even sooner you might have to switch the graphics down to 1680* and keep ultra settings to stay at 30-40 FPS 0r maybe not. It still might work at 1080P okay i don't know the benchmark for games coming out this year. Most people like playing games at 50 FPS or higher and this is where the more expensive graphics cards come in. 30 Frames is what the xbox runs at(speed wise). It will do at the moment but if you don't mind dropping resolution in the near future(in all honesty you will not notice the difference at 1680 compared to 1920) then the card is fine on a budget

Overall I think it will do you grand for a year for the budget your on and can upgrade down the line.

I'm only in the same position as yourself now, looking to do my first build but those components will be compatible as far as I see, it should be perfect for your needs!

The two main things im curious about is does ATX have any advantages over mATX? Apart from having more space, the first case I was looking at which I really liked the look of only fits ATX boards and not mATX so I had to replace it :( and the second one is the processor, im pretty clueless when it comes to these, but I decided to go for an i5 over the i3 and I didnt go for the 3550k because I dont plan on overclocking :)
Any help with this would be appreciated, as I said im realtively new to this :P

You could fit an mATX board in any ATX case so that wouldn't be a problem. The only real difference is that and ATX board would usually have a few more features/ports that its mATX equivalent.

Since you have no plans for overclocking build looks just fine to me.

Ah right, its just on the specs it has it only accepts ATX :o
    Does the processor look alright?

The mATX mountings should line up with any ATX case so it is likely just a spec omission. Processor is good if you have no interest in overclocking that CPU it about as good as you can get, and should give you at least a good 4 or more years of service .
