Impossible to contact Revenue

I started a PAYE job this month after being self-employed for a number of years, and I've been trying to contact Revenue to notify them of the change and of my employers id number so that I'm not charged emergency tax on my new salary - too late now for January, as I saw the E code on my pay-slip last week.

Ringing any of the PAYE numbers doesn't work, as they all ask for your PPS number before you get beyond the machine. As soon as they hear mine, they tell me I'm self-employed and have to ring the 01 6470700 number.

Fine. Except that that's been a dead line for weeks now, no matter what time of day I try it.

I emailed them, but the auto reply tells me it can take up to 30 days for an answer.

Is there any way to contact a human being at Revenue on a number that actually works when your PPS number is not currently shown as PAYE?

Not sure what office that is for but popping your PPS number into the contact locator should give you the number for your local office. You might be put through to the self assessing area but ask to be transferred to the paye area. You may also wish to inform whatever office you are ringing that there automated message needs updating.
