So I'd like to try the gym out in sandyford before joining, i'm picky about the gyms I join.

If I went up and asked could I trial the place for a week, is that a bit cheeky and would i be told go jump ?

Not wanted to sound like a smart arse...but if your actually picky about the gyms you join..then a ben dunne gym perhaps shouldnt be on your list!

As the saying goes "all they can say is no"

What's wrong with it? I use it regularly and find it has everything I need

My thinking would be if they are not willing to give a trial they must have something to hide. It does not need to be a freebie, and it is probably best not to ask for a freebie.

If I owned a gym with nothing to hide I would offer say a 1 month membership, then if you decide to join you pay the full year fee for the next 11 months, and get refunded your original monthly fee (or discounted off the year fee -same thing)

I've found the Ben Dunne Gyms I've joined to be excellent. Why would they give you a month free? You should pay like everybody else!

    Hi folks
Thinking of joining a Ben Dunne gym. Just wondering why so cheap. Is there somebody on hand to put a program together for you and to help you with the weight exercises on your first day.

They have personal trainers available from €30 an hour I believe. I'm actually not sure if they'll stick a program together as part of the basic joining fee, I don't believe so.

As to why it's cheap? It's cheap because you won't get personal attention or coaching as part of your fee. The equipment in Sandyford is fine and if you are self motivated; avoid peak times and know how to program for yourself I reckon it's a great place to train for the price charged.

Be aware though that the business model is based on having lots of sign ups on a yearly basis who don't attend regularly past their first six weeks. If everyone who signed up stuck around 3 + times a week the place would be standing room only with a 3 man queue for every piece of equipment at all times.

I've been working out in the Sandyford one for the past 3 months and I think its possibly the best gym I've used in Dublin. Its clean, well maintained and not overly busy even after work.

Jervis Street on the other hand is a nightmare !! Weights all over the place, its filthy and full of knob jockies standing around admiring their guns in the mirrors !!

Anyone have any experience getting a PT in this gym? I joined on Monday and as I want to learn proper squat/deadlift technique, I signed up for a PT (was told I'd be called) but haven't heard anything yet.
