    Hello,

I'm moving back to Ireland soon and looking to join a club. I'll be living in the Naas/Clane area and am looking for opinions on Naas golf club. I played there once many many years ago and while I don't remember walking away from it with a bad impression, I can't remember the course itself.

    Appreciate any feedback.

I play Naas once or twice a year and I think its a very good course and its well maintained. There's a good variety of holes but the back nine is tougher. I was very surprised it didn't make the top 100 list. The course was re-modelled about 10 years ago, I think, which may be why you don't recall it.

You've a good choice of courses where you're planning to live. Millicent, Castlewarden, Craddockstown are good courses too.

Naas is a cracker, I'm a member of a top 100 course and I would gladly swap courses (if I was in the location).

Great elevation from tees, some cracking approach shots, a couple of meh holes, but all in all, a great track and a good test for any man/woman or child.

Yep, best of the options in that area I would suggest. From the 8th onwards it opens out into a cracking course.

I have tried all the Clubs around Naas and have decided to join Castlewarden .
By far the best club in that area IMO. Also very handy just off the Motorway.
Pricewise much the same as the others but you get what you pay for.
You should try them all , its a buyers market now .
    Good luck.

Thanks folks. Great feedback. Must try those other courses in the area too.

I've only gotten back into golf in the last year, so I've no official hc yet and have only ever played in about 3 work comps!

Looking forward to getting more serious. I'm assuming the club has a pro there (does every club have one?) so lessons will be a must. Defo got the bug this last year.

You can't go wrong with Naas, Castlewarden or Craddockstown. But Naas is the best in that area in my opinion (unless you wanted to stretch as far down as the Curragh). Some fab holes on the back nine as some earlier have said.

The par 4 16th, par 3 17th and par 5 18th are three cracking holes to finish.

Out of curiosity what are the rates at these ?
I left my club " to remain nameless " a good few years ago, due to cost and lack of use. Have been considering joining up again, and was looking around. Tulfarris is a nice track too and has a good deal there too.

For year round playability I don't think you could beat Millicent. Played it last Wed when all the others were on temps and it was in great condition. The problem for me with Millicent is the bar never seems to be open so I am assuming that the club will be lacking in atmosphere.

With regard to Naas I've heard that they are really struggling with the adverse weather and have closed a number of holes throughout the winter.

In relation to a club Pro, Naas, Craddockstown & Castlewarden have one.

Also, don't forget to have a look at Killeen.

I paid €1050 to join Castlewarden this year , competition fees are €5
Open Competition on every Wednesday Visitors €15 ,
    Greenfees €15 midweek
    Fri / Sat / Sun €25 to €30
Full time Professional , generous practice area and two putting greens.
    Worth a try .

I was a member in Tulfarris for 2 years before moving house and club to north Dublin last year. Really miss the course and club and would readily move back if the commute was more manageable. It was my first club to join and was very welcoming and friendly, got to know a good few players and really improved my golf. Lovely course and good facilities and very reasonable so definitely get in touch with Norma in the clubhouse to see for yourself.

Edit: Oops, now see the thread is from Jan of this year.

Yep, sorry, my fault for bumping up an old one!

In case anyone was wondering, Naas is in as good a condition as I've ever seen it. Lovely day for it up there today and I've never seen as many greenstaff working on a course at one time!
