Flashing..... I don't get it. My lights are okay, not full beams on.

Hey, so I just drove home and apparently I met few "flashing maniacs" who just kept flashing to me and even turning their full beams and driving with them trying to achieve something. First I thought I have full beams on, but I didn't. Then I set headlight level to lowest and they still kept flashing and blinding me. There was an X5 parked that started up, and he turned up dipped headlights then flashed to me few times. Also I think but I am not 100% sure but some flashed to me from behind. Also I think I heard few people beeping (or it was just coincidence). I was driving normally, no dangerous stuff or anything, I was within limit not anything dangerous. So I got home I thought maybe my number plate lights are off or something, or brake lights don't work but everything works fine as it should. I don't get it....
What's their problem? what else could I be having wrong on my car? There is no smoke from exhaust that would cause someone to go mad too.

When parked I checked from all angles does it blind when dipped headlights and unless you are lower than car bonnet - it doesn't blind you.
Any ideas? Of course it could be flashed to someone else, but that's bit too many coincidences of me being where it's flashing. If people will keep flashing I may as well keep driving with daylights only because I don't get it...

    Dips might be beamed incorrectly

Lights either aligned too high or you are using the non standard bulb and its brighter or unfocused

Are you sure one of your dims or full lights aren't gone or you had your fog lights on?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,515 ✭✭✭arleitiss

Forgot to mention: it went through all servicing, all changing and mechanics had a look at headlights... didn't say anything so I assume it's alright.
I have: dipped headlights + angel eyes working at same time, but come on... it's not like 2 circles will blind someone unless they stare at headlight.

Yes I am sure, I checked that about 7 times, turned on and off all lights and fogs to make sure, but still.

Get the focus checked. Also if you have the height defaulted to pointing slightly upwards this is accented when you put weight in the back seats or boot meaning it can be blinding.

Take it to advance pit stop or somewhere similar and get them to check alignment. It's cheap too.

Well I have 2 batteries in the boot (don't ask), and lots of tools, but I don't think it would cause car to be pointed so much?

    Yes

You driving on uneven road? Lot of people confuse a car "bobbing" up and down on bad road as flashing.

Otherwise go get your headlights professionally aligned.

I don't know about any other mechanics, but the one I do know about didn't do anything with your headlights because you said you were replacing them. You do have aftermarket angle eyes, aftermarket headlight bulbs and yellow fog lights so the issue may be any of the above possibly.

Do you have hid lights fitted? They can blind other drivers.

Did you leave your coffee/shopping/baby/hat on the roof and drive off?

    :D

oh, I thought the main person said it's all alright? okay suppose that could make sense so. Yeah I will be replacing them soon, but not like in next 2 weeks anyway. I thought those are normal bulbs?

I meet an Audi A5 every morning and evening and his lights are very strong and blind me. You see his lights more than any other cars and they are dimmed.

What's the point of both angel eyes and headlights?

That's how it's wired. I don't have choice to disable one or another. I can either drive with both or only angel eyes.

Rear view dims but the sides don't so i can safely say i would have been blinded only for the dimming in the rear one.

Also when i say blue lights i mean slightly brigher good quality standard bulbs with a blue tinte rather than hids :p

It's surprisingly difficult to get new fora approved.

When'd you put those batteries in the boot? I'd take them out, see does it make a difference.

Being serious here OP , but is there any chance that you were driving on roads that were flooded in parts today? I was myself and got flashed several times and low and behold a hazardous patch of road quickly followed. There were 2 collisions I came across today because of the flooding and oncoming drivers used their headlights in strobe mode to alert oncoming traffic. I myself gave a brief flash (cheeky) on occasion today after going through some floods.

Off topic: I don't normally condone or practise the unnecessary flashing of headlights but most people here know the potential for destruction once you hit a flood driving at 50+ kph, unfortunately not enough people out there either know or pay enough attention to the roads to prepare for a flood.

Both collisions I passed today (during daylight, on straight stretches of road w/hard shoulder) involved 2 cars; one car driving into the rear of another. In each one, either driver 1 didn't see the flood until the last minute and broke heavily, in this case they couldn't have been looking at the road as Ray Charles would have seen the oncoming flood. Or driver 2 was the one not paying attention and only saw driver 1 creeping through the flood at the last second. Thankfully nobody appeared to be hurt in the two minor collisons, but it's still going to be a pain in the ass for the involved parties to sort out, and these easily avoidable accidents contribute to the many that inevitably push insurance premiums up. I of course am an impeccable driver:pac:

Anyway, sorry about the rant, I don't normally post in the motors forum and maybe should keep it that way.:o OP if 'flooding' isn't an issue on the roads you were driving, best of luck with your lights!

P.S. Don't get me started on the amount of rebels going around with no lights on during the darkening hours, they.........ok ok I'm done sorry, coat got, good luck:D
