    Hi all,

I'm getting married in August and I'm thinking of using McElhinneys for my dresses. I've had a look at their website and they have some gorgeous dresses.

I'd be driving from Kilkenny so I want to make sure it won't be a wasted journey. I'm basically interested in the experience of buying your dresses with them. Does anyone have any experience with McElhinneys?

    Thanks

I've only heard good things about their bridal section, one thing I heard was to make an appointment for a quite time, weekends are very busy and you might feel rushed.
Did you search for info on weddingsonline? I think there are a good few topics about McElhinneys.

Don't know about their Bridal Wear but McElhinneys are top notch for everything else!! I would assume the Bridal Wear is just as good.

You need to be careful that people aren't confusing it with McElhinneys in Athboy Meath OP. They have a great rep, not sure about the Donegal one but their dressed do look fab.

Personally, I wouldn't travel so far for my dress...Any designer they have, someone else closer is bound to have same designer.
I'm in the same area as you and ruled that place out on distance.

Have you looked in KK, they have loads of bridal shops there don't they?
I'm heading up to Mullingar to look, but that's an awful lot handier than Donegal.

I have looked at the weddingsonline forum and both shops seem to have great reps so I'm happy enough with that.

The distance doesn't bother me, just want to make sure I'm not wasting the journey on a shop that's not worth it.

I was talking about Ballybofey, Donegal.

McIlhennys have won all the top bridal awards for dresses and service etc so they must be doing something right. I found my ideal dress just before i decided to try there but Id say they are brilliant.

Retail Excellene Ireland Retailer of the Year 2012 - I think that says quite a bit.

Continued growth in a recession and a HUGE number of customers being from across NI - says a lot too.

Its also a beautiful part of Ireland, so a nice weekend can be had too!

Just a little update for anyone interested. I have been dealing with McElhinneys for a few weeks now to organise my fitting appointment and they have been such a pleasure to deal with. They run a deal with a hotel and spa in Ballybofey, a really good package deal that includes bed, breakfast, spa treatments and vouchers for McElhinneys so my sister and I are going to stay overnight and make a little mini break out of it.

This is compared to a shop in Dublin that I rang about the dress I have my eye on. I rang specifically about one dress and was told they don't normally stock that particular one (although they do stock the designer) and when I asked would it be possible to order it in, the woman on the phone just said "I don't know". I then asked if I could speak to whoever normally deals with ordering in dresses and was told they'd ring me back within a half hour. I waited 2 hours, rang again, she was on lunch and would ring me back, I rang back again the following day and was told she was on lunch, at 10am... so I gave up.
