    Hi,

My pc is overdue an upgrade - last one was 5 years ago and it's beginning to cough and splutter a bit.

I've always done the upgrading myself, buying the various components and installing them, etc.

In previous times, I've used Komplett as my source, but they've changed since the last time.

I'm curious, who would people recommend as a good source of components - good choice and up-to-date.

I'm probably going to change the case and will definitely be changing the motherboard, the processor (thinking of an i7-3770k), memory, hard drive (probably going to get an SSD as the primary drive. I also want to put a good cooling system into it (water cooled??) so I can dip into the world of overclocking.

Hardwareversand get used a lot here but they can be a hassle so it's best to order a good few things to justify the shipping and bank transfer stuff. They have a huge range and good prices.

I've personally never ordered from Hardwareversand. They seems to have a good range of stuff, but no always great customer service. I use Komplett, their range isn't as big, but I always find what I want. Its free delivery and they have a forum on Boards.ie if you have any questions/Issues. Elara have a good range too, although they are a little more expensive, at least you can go pick your stuff up asap.

I recently placed an order with Scan.co.uk. and to be honest found the prices quite good and the delivery excellent.

I purchased the following list of parts

    Asus Gene V motherboard
    Fractal Design R4 Case
    Corsair TX850 PSU
    16GB Corsair Vengeance Ram
    3tb Seagate HD
    Asus Xonar SoundCard
    120mm Fan

I ordered this at 23:00 last Tuesday night and the order was delivered at 13:30 on Friday by DPD. The courier charge was around 15 euro for a 2 day service. The overall cost was only slightly dearer than Hardwareversand (less than 20 euro) but for that you had better payment options and a quicker delivery time plus the case I wanted was in stock. I will definitely purchase from Scan again.

    Highly recommend

I always thought it would be a good idea to have a sticky on here about the shipping costs of all the main stores we buy from?

I actually find Amazon to be cheaper than most places, and free super saver delivery is a big plus

+1 for Scan. Their daily deals can throw up some real bargains. I check it most days, if I'm looking to buy or not. I got my rig from them over a few months for about £700 (3570k, 6850, 2 x 120GB ssd, 1TB hdd, z77 mobo, 8Gb ram, dvd, xonar, case and psu) I only once had to return a component, they mailed me a packing label and sent a courier :)

Overclockers UK will price match if you call them. Which in my case made it cheaper then Scan because, Overclockers shipping was cheaper.

Yes, I had a look at Scan last night and was very impressed by their level of choice and their prices aren't bad either.

Yes its a good idea if your only buying 1 or 2 things . But if your buying a lot the scan bundles offer better components and faster delivery times .and shipping isnt much anyway

It's a good time to buy from the UK now as the exchange rate has dropped alot over the past few days. It will still likely work out cheaper buying from Germany though.

There's also aria.co.uk who have some great 'superspecial' deals now and again but their shipping is expensive.
