Woohoo! She is past retirement age anyhow.
Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands is to make a televised announcement, amid speculation in local media that she will abdicate the throne.
The queen, who is approaching her 75th birthday, will address the nation at 19:00 local time (18:00 GMT), the royal household said in a statement. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-21237254

In fairness people are living so old these days that they'll all be retired by the time they are due to assume the role.

What age is Charles now ffs!

God be with the days when you were dead of gout and childbirth by the time you were 30.

But first he must be succesful in a few trials, of which he will monitoed and graded on. First he shall build a chalet.

This shall be done with his bare hands, with no tools to be used, and it must be acceptable to live in and of splendour.

Once he has completed this, next he will have to dance with wolves. He will be judged by expert dance judges, so as to ensure he has meet the wolve dancing standard. If he manages that, and it's harder than you'd think then he must play a game of chess with a bear in the woods. The bear must co-operate.

Finally, if he is succesfull in all three endeavours, he must finally go to the North Pole and lead an expedition of Penguins and not only must he get them to accept him as one of their own but also be recognized as their supreme commander. Having done this and becoming leader of the penguins, then and only then, may he rule Netherlands.

If only Lizzie lived the quiet life that Queen Beatrix does and the media would stfu. Queen Beatrix used to buy art from a friend of mine who owned a gallery in Amsterdam. She would visit alone on her bicycle. No security, no fanfare.

I'd be a royalist if the UK royals would drop the glitz and live simple lives as other European royals do.

I believe Prince Charles may have already done this in his head. His favourite Petunia told me.

I've heard similar everyday stories about the Norwegian, Spanish and Danish royals. The British royals are an exception to the rule it seems.

Beatrix is just doing what her late mother Queen Julianna did in 1980 to clear the way for her reign. It's very Dutch.:pac:

Can you imagine if Elizabeth II did the same? But not for Charles, but William instead?:D
