new laptop advice

    Hey

Looking for a bit of advice. My 5 year old Dell is having some major issues and it's not worth trying to fix it.

I've been looking around online for a replacement and want to get someone's opinion on this

    http://www.dabs.ie/products/lenovo-g580-core-i5-3210m-6gb-ram-500gb-hdd-dvdrw-15-6--windows-8---bronze-8DBT.html?refs=54590000-51340000-54950000&src=3

I'll only really be using it for lots of Office stuff and the internet, no gaming and the 500GB shouldn't be a problem.

This model seems a lot cheaper than the other I5s listed on that site and the other usual suspects such as PC World. Am I missing something? (I don't really know much about computer specs).

Also has anyone had any dealings with dabs.ie? I don't know anything about them.

    Thanks

The chip seems good, it probably rates on the lower end of the scale as i5's go; but still a decent processor.

I've bought a Lenovo myself its a Thinkpad model with a i3 3220M chip that compares along side that i5 chip minus the turbo boost.
As far as I can figure the ThinkPad range are more robust than the other Lenovo line of laptops; this is a requirement for my needs.

Thanks for the input. I noticed your own thread/blog about buying your Thinkpad, you're dead right about doing homework and the likes of PC World, they seem a complete disaster. Considering I don't know anything about specs, I could easily walk out of one of those places with an over priced dud.

Your experience with dabs.ie wasn't too flash either though. Will take a look at Elara.ie tomorrow.
