Lads, what might be causing high idle in a 1,4 almera? When started from cold she idles at around 1500. At operating temp she's still at around 1100, but eventually she goes grudgingly down to around 750. Touch the gas pedal and up she goes to 1100 again and hangs there for aanother while before going down again. Any drain on the engine - turn the power steering, put on the lights etc nudges her up again. Is there an idle control valve than can be cleaned or changed? Throttle body is clean as new and no engine light/codes coming on.

MY Almera had a low idle and was occasionally cutting out when I would come to a stop and it turned out to be a dirty idle control valve. I'm not sure a high idle would be a symptom of a dirty IAC valve but it's probably worth cleaning anyway to rule it out. On my 2001 1.5 petrol Almera, it is just before the throttle body, there is a small inlet that air will go down when the butterfly valve throttle is closed. I cleaned it with carburettor cleaner and a toothbrush iirc.

When you mention turning lights on, turning the wheel etc. causing it to fluctuate would make me think it's not the IAC valve for some reason tho. Good luck!

Sounds like the cold start mechanism sticking on????

No, it's probably the idle control valve, they get sooted up on this model but can be cleaned with some carb cleaner after a little dismantling.
