probably not the best man to answer this but i used to fire 55 v max and its worth paying the extra few bob especially if ur club pays for tails otherwise cheap bullets are false economy. im sure certain bullets fire differently out of different twist rate barrells so maybe the rifle men here can help u. fair play to for re-opening a couple of older threads:D

Best you can use are the VMax and VShok balstistic rounds.
I never had a runner with the American Eagel hollow points.

The eagles are devastating if placed well.. I've had 2 runners with the VMAX to be honest.. One of them that night :P:P Im using 55gr vmax.. mind you the last fox I shot had his back to me and I shot him up the arse.. Dropped like a bag of stones ..

I haven't used the eagles in mine yet but I assume up to 200 yards the kill zone will be the same..

My T3 loves the hornady so I seem to have no reason to change yet really!

V max 55 grain , but like said sounds like you need to take the extra second or to and place ur shot better

You can drop almost anything, with anything, if you get the placement right.

What I am saying is, shot placement is critical.

As a secondary consideration, you will kill better with the new ballistic tipped ammo. The only reservation I have about ballistic tips is that they will blow up if they hit almost anything between you and your intended target, including things like a few rushes and definitely twigs. HP or soft point ammo are a better option if your targets often present with stuff in the way.

You got to hit them in the vitals, though. Even ballistic tips can't perform miracles.

A fullbore might be the only way to stop foxes with a gut shot, but you open a whole new bunch of variables, especially at very short range.

If you can't hit a fox in the chest/shoulder area you need to get closer. No way you should 'often' have gut shots.

For Wile E. and bro bobcat a good quality V-max or FMJ in 40-55gr works fine and should for foxy too with less damage to the pelt. This guy in Canada has a cool site, click terminal ballistics, scroll down, you get documentation of actual shot placement on the animal and the results.
