No its not another fog light thread as such but have noticed lately esp on vag cars that a fog light will come on when the car is turning left or right,is this a new thing and what is the advantage.

The light comes on in order to light up the inside of the corner, giving the driver a better view. It's been around for a few years now, and comes on after the indicator has been activated, and the driver makes a turn.

Only noticed it on a superb and a golf lately i suppose another thing to go wrong eventually.

Well, it's only a light. The electronics which control it are unlikely to go wrong.

Not directed at you specifically, but "just another thing to go wrong" is a very typical Irish attitude towards anyone with any extras on a new car.

Had them on an Ibiza rental car back in 09. They don't just come on with the indicators.

They come on when making a sharpish turn don't they??? I have seen it on a few Skoda turning into parking spaces

With the car stopped turning the wheel they gradually come on, so I'd say its related to the steering angle.

Wife has a Kia Sportage and it has Cornering Lights. They are aimed to the side and are part of the fog light unit, but they are a separate bulb. They come on when you indicate regardless of steering angle and also from what I can tell regardless of speed.

Mitsubishis used to have these in the 90s

The idea has been around for a while so.
