    If I wish to pave an area of 169 square metres with concrete slabs of 40cm x 40cm roughly how many slabs would I need?

    Assuming its a reasonably square area:

    169m2 / (0.4m*0.4m) = 1056.25 slabs

    Plus breakages... More if you have any crazy shapes in the edges...

    Disclaimer: Never paved before but it can't be that different to tiles etc.
