Just watched Bob and the Wailers on the old grey whistle test on BBC 4.

Got me thinking, anyone not enjoy at least one song from Bob?

I'm thinkin of growing dread's and buyin a Hash pipe.

    Peace!

Not a fan at all. Don't see / hear the appeal tbh.

Saying you don't like Bob Marley gets you the same kind of lectures that you get when you say you don't like the Beatles. "You just don't understand or appreciate it, allow me to educate you...." Queue a half hour lecture of their importance to not just music but the fundamental fabric of the development of the human race.

I worked in Jamaica and lived opposite Bob Marley's tourist attraction house for 6 months.

He's great but modern Jamaican dancehall/ragga is rubbish. they like the idea of him there more than the music.

That Che t-shirt is actually a Jim Fitzpatrick drawing. Irish artist from Dublin, he gave the drawing to Che's wife in Cuba (he had one back home in Argentina too the auld dog). She gets all the royalties from the image.

 I was going to give you the mandatory half hour lecture mentioned by the poster below but decided against it. If you don't like even one song, I can't fix whatever is wrong with you in half an hour.

:) Not necessarily. One of my whiter than white friends with platinum blond hair had amazing looking dreadlocks. Clean, neat and not chunky. They looked very good on her. In fact, I think it's her best look yet.

You shouldn't have said that, now the drones of the hive mind are going to try to assimilate you. Resistance is futile.

Marley transcends the reggae genre, he was a great artist and the songs are as vital and beautiful as ever.

Catch a Fire and Exodus are two of my favourite albums ever and really got me into reggae which I'd dismissed until my late teens as having nothing to say

    Bob Marley or the Beatles?

I suppose the Beatles did release The Best of The Beatles, so 15-Love to them. Once Bob makes an album as good as that we'll reconsider.

    He was Welsh after all!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,558 ✭✭✭seven_eleven

Yeah the Beatles are pretty crap to be honest. Bob Marley is mediocre, I'm not really going to go out of my way to listen to him.

Oh, and Jimi Hendrix's version of all along the watch tower is an abomination. Bob Dylan all the way!

I'm still a fan of ole bob, His music always brings me up to a good feeling. Or was that the spliff  Still i love his music and the wailers...

The Beatles early stuff was mediocre, in comparison to the groundbreaking stuff on "Revolver" and afterwards. Dylan's ok but I think he ran out of steam after "Desire".

You wouldnt be able to Sky + it in the 70s they had no Sky TV back then. Even VHS recorders were owned by the elite and public servents.

I agree but not as good as "The Ramones", If I had a penny for every fake **** I saw in a Ramones tee I'd have about 30-40c

If it's an introduction to his music, I guess Legend is a good compilation... ye gods, everyone had that album at one stage, didn't they?

It was Bob originally. Damian covered it & Exodus on his 'Welcome to Jamrock' album, or sort of did his own updated versions.

Never knew that, learn something knew everyday.

After listening I prefer Damians version although they're completely different, I forgot how much I enjoyed Damian. Distant Relatives is a fantastic piece of work
