On Saturday you're watching an interesting programme on TG4. It goes from 8.15 p.m. to 9.20 p.m.. You have to leave it to watch the news on RTE1 at 9 p.m., as it always has been and remains so Saturday to Friday. Haec non praesto! You tune into RTE1 to find that the news is almost over, having commenced at 8.45 p.m.. You've lived your life secure in the knowledge that the news starts at 9 p.m. every evening, just as school is at 9.30 a.m., the last time for posting is 5.30 p.m, and tea is at 6 p.m., and that if RTE change the time of the news because the Pope has just died or somebody is slow spinning the wheel, they will at least move it backwards, not forwards, thus giving one an opportunity to put on the kettle or have a pee. Is RTE a. trying to shield us from bad news, b. trying to prove that they know more than we do, or c. just taking the mickey ? Am I the only one who is pissed off at this? Should I switch to BBC Northern Ireland?

There was another thread along these lines which i now can't find - you're not alone, OP!

ETA - except that the news is usually on later, not earlier on a Saturday - got caught rotten tonight, the one night I actually wanted to see it. Thank goodness for RTE+1!

I think it is very good for the country for RTE to put the news on when they like without notice. Take for instance PK JD it could be two or three minutes past the hour for them to apologize for running over time. Who gives a $hit about the drivel they call news, it is the same from eight in the morning till the clowns finish their shows and the lovely Mary Wilson starts at 4.30.

There was alot of dissatisfaction among Irish holidaymakers years ago about holidays in Communist-era Bulgaria. It got alot of coverage on radio here. When enquiries were directed to the Bulgarian tourist office here, the response was: " Oh you Irish. You are always complaining!" If memory serves me rightly, it was a criminal offence to complain in most Marxist paradises,

:) But shouldn't they do so at regular intervals? Wouldn't you like to know when to avoid it?

"As football is my life id like to apply, thank you " - just thought I'd show one of MonkstownHoop's posts. Thank you.

Good weekly weather forecast on Sunday after the 13:00hrs news. Trouble is the one o’clock news is hardly ever at one o’clock with the result that the forecast is often missed.

It’s only a small thing that RTE could easily put right but they don’t give a hoot about the ones who pay their wages.
