Way Up In The Air 9/1 NAP

I am a big, big fan of Robert Tyner's 6 year old mare who I think is going to give Zuzka a massive race tomorrow and I'm confident she has the ability to win this. An absolutely massive mare standing 17.2h, I think she's going to make up into a monster chaser next year and whatever she achieves over hurdles is a bonus but there is most definitely a touch of class about her and she comes here on the back of an impressive win in a Maiden Hurdle. After making an impressive debut in a Bumper when finishing 3rd behind a nice sort of Willie Mullins back in November 2011, it may look a bit surprising that it took her 6 attempts in that sphere to get off the mark but there is no doubt in my mind that she's only now starting to grow into her massive frame and she looks a vastly improved animal showing the benefit of having the summer off last year. On the back of that break, she landed her first career victory at Cork in a Bumper back in November in impressive style as she made rapid headway to lead with about 5f out and from about 2f out she battle on gamely to win by 1.5L, although I feel that she was certainly value for more than the winning margin suggests. The form of that race doesn't look great but she can only beat what's put in front of her and she has clearly improved again for the switch to hurdles. She made her hurdles debut at Cork in December when sent off a pretty well supported 7/2 shot but she took a heavy tumble at the first flight as she rushed into it and just got it completely wrong. I actually feared she had broken her leg at the time but luckily she seems to have escaped that nasty looking incident unscathed and she made no mistake on her 2nd time of asking over hurdles when running out an impressive winner on her last start.

A couple of weeks ago at Punchestown, Way Up In The Air was again strong in the betting when sent off a 3/1 shot on what was effectively her first start over hurdles and I don't think she could have won in more impressive fashion. Racing quite keenly throughout, Davy Russell tried to bury her towards the rear of the field but that just couldn't happen as she jumped every hurdle so well that she was making up about a length on every one of her rivals at each obstacle and soon she was sitting just off the pace. Jumping tremendously throughout, she made smooth headway under Russell to go 4th at about half way and came there on the bridle as her and eventual runner up Champagne Agent forged clear of the rest of the field. Coming up the last flight, Russell asked his mount to quicken on and she did so impressively in a manner of strides to put distance between her and her rival. She looked clueless when she hit the front as she wandered around and idled all over the place but she was kept up to her work by Davy's strong exertions as she ended up scoring by just shy of 5L. There is no doubt in my mind that she had loads left in the tank and I am sure she's going to be delivered to challenge quite later tomorrow. The runner up that day Champagne Agent is a very solid yardstick (although he can't buy a win!) as he has shown some quite useful form finishing narrowly beaten 2nds to subsequent Listed Hurdle winner Too Scoops and the talented High Desert and I think it was a very impressive success by this mare. Its no surprise to me that she is stepped straight into a Listed Novice Hurdle and given that she has only had one completed start over hurdles tells you that connections obviously think quite a bit of her. She faces a very difficult task in trying to overcome Zuzka as her far more experienced rival brings some really strong form including a comfortable Grade 3 success on her last start as well as a fine close up 3rd behind Jezki and Champagne Fever and she rightfully deserves to be odds on. There is no question in my mind that its going to take a very good horse to beat Zuzka tomorrow but I really think Way Up In The Air is just that and I'll be surprised and very disappointed if she isn't in the first 3 home tomorrow. I do, however, think that this huge mare could be a little bit special tomorrow and I think she's going to run a huge race tomorrow at a price that I think is very generous. Regardless what happens tomorrow, remember the name as I think she's going to be an absolute monster over fences.

    Leopardstown

1.25 Pont Alexandre @ 8/15: If he's as good as he looked in Navan or as some on here say Mullins rates him, he should win this!

1.55 Captain Cee Bee to place @ 8/1: Only beaten a head by Thousand Stars the last day so can't understand the massive difference in their respective prices, especially when Thousand Stars role is sure to be setting the pace for Hurricane Fly again. Binoculars record isn't the greatest first time out and I'm hoping McCoy has a go and tries to put pressure on 'The Fly' some distance out, sacrificing 2nd. CCB worth a bet @8/1 in 3 horse race for 2nd IMO.

    Win Double @ 12.8/1

Pont Alexandre should bolt up here. Has handled these conditions before so I'd pretty much lump on even at that price.

have done the treble of pont alexandre zuzka and the fly.have thousand stars without the fly and on sammy black at 10s hes 5s now i think

You'd feel it will be a good day for Willie Mullins and Ruby Walsh.

I"m not saying he wont bolt up , but Our Vinnie will put it up to him. Distance is not in Vinnies favor but this horse doesnt know how to quit. Pity also its his third Jock in as many races, still BJ is no slouch. At 5s he is my EW bet of the day (I"m on him @6s).

Chino Valdes, has far too decent consistent for to be 40/1 for this race. He is in here of a nice mark in what looks a poorer race than he has been running in. He goes on the ground has a form jockey up and looks well overpriced.

Gone for Old pride 22-1 in the first and 1.35 Ally Cascade 16-1 ew double. both have been running fast times with ally cascade to step up in trip.

I think i'll dutch Thousand Stars (9/4) and CCB (15/2) in the w/o market in the Champion Hurdle. Works out at just over 11/8. Binocular has been beaten on many seasonal reappearances, and today's ground is unlikely to see him to good affect.

Opted for Angelas Money in the first. E/W of course!

    Ally Cascade 13.25 Leopardstown

Really like the look of this horse. On his hurdling debut he was backed as if defeat was out of the question against Jezki, eventually going down by half a lenght. He won next time out beating Urano (who just got well beaten) but that run suggested to me he'd appreaciate the step up trip which he has today. Last time out he was well beaten by Jezki but was bang there a furlong and a half out only for a poor jump putting an end to his hope of winning, he was eased down after that. He is currently 16/1 and id expect him to place at the least and think he is way over priced.

Good start to the day for Ruby. Anonis at 18 on BF could be big next race

It's been a bloodbath for favs so far.

Really have to worry about Mullins horses at the moment.

Does anyone else think it could be telling that Henderson came over?

Wouldn't say so, didn't he run in it to years ago when they all stood at the start and he made the running

Edit: I'm thinking of the race at Punchestown

I meant the fact that Henderson came over with Binocular as he is the only runner for Henderson.

Binocular is normally crap first time out, might be Henderson just wanted to meet JP.

There would want to be a serious three mile novice in England to beat him at Cheltenham.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,404 ✭✭✭mr.jingle

Impressive by Pont Alexandre there anyone who done the 10/1 double on him to win today and at Cheltenham will be happy with that.

Sizing Gold looks a nice horse in behind he'll make a nice chaser looking at him he winged a lot of them hurdles and looks like he'll be decent.

Winner though very impressive just ran them into the ground again

Took 7/1 for the Neptune as he was jumping the last there. Talk was Willie was going to put him in the Deloitte before deciding on this so i'm confident he'll go for the shorter race

1/4 widely available on HF, Boyles go 2/13

There is, well the Neptune trip anyway. Puffin Billy, although perhaps PA will want it soft and not so Puffin Billy.

Ground will be huge this festival

I'm surprised that connections seem to be leaning towards the Neptune. I'd say on better ground 3 miles will be perfect for him. On better ground it wouldn't shock me if Puffin Billy had too many gears for him. I suppose there is no guarantee of better ground this year though.

Routine for the Fly just now. Looks very well in himself.

Good luck to the HF CH layers and doubters being against this beast at Cheltenham because I wouldnt lay him at any price he was clearly not right last year and layers will be cleaned come Cheltenham.

Also Pont Alexandre is a bigger certainty than quevega at cheltenham this season.

5 lenghts! Yahoo! I figured that 5l or over with betfair at 5/4 and 5.5l or less with PP at 9/4 worked out at better than the general 1/4. He won by 5l so I win both, delighted

Edit: Don't think I got paid out on both, bollocks

People actually believe Grandouet or Zarkandar could beat this beast,

Worry about the Mullins horses? It was a Mullins horse that won that race

I know it was and they had a big priced winner yesterday but they have had a few blips on shorties over the weekend.

Marito got turned over, Arvika fell, City Slicker was beaten, Urano got beaten, Zuzka got beaten.

Urano and Marito were stupid prices though and never should have been shorties. Can't do anything about the fall. Zuzka deserved to be fav, don't know what happened there. Still wouldn't say the stable's in poor form. TS beating Binocular and PA very impressive

Marito not good enough, arvika well unlucky to fall first time hes looked like falling, city slicker was out on his feet coming to the last after pulling too hard around,Urano is one to avoid now hes a habit of bumping into one as the winner wasnt fancied today, zuzka is a mare on the go since galway if I remember so she could have just had enough racing although Glen melody was a blatant non trier behind her last time to let Patrick break the record,

I wouldnt be bothered about the stable form Pont alexandre and the fly my 2 cheltenham bankers performed immensly and look as good as ever.

Didn't get much of a run there after he clattered a few down the back. Not sure he was up to it anyway.
    Nice ride by ruby!

If you watch the final furlong or so of Blackmails win he changed his legs numerous times. This horse will improve no end on far better ground. How good is the new purchase of Willie Mullins who beat Blackmail last time out.

SRFC you seem to know abit about the Mullins yard, what do they think of Union Dues? was very impressed with his last run against Champagne James who bet Blackmail easily on his first run. I think Union Dues looks to have serious gears

I posted that before Ponte Alexandres and HFs races.

With the weather continuing to be ****e I decided there probably is no chance of good ground come the Champ Hurdle so I backed HF before the race today at 7/2.

Not sure what the plan for Binocular was, it was odd letting HF get away and then get after Binocular to get pass TS

He's a nice horse alright he won a bit of a sprint last time in Navan when he was friendless,I dont think they rate him highly tbh only cost 42k from his brothers yard which isnt a lot for a proven bumper winner on the track,He was never mentioned to me when I got a few of the ones who had been working nicely at home at the time but I like him he's a nice 4 year old and I think hes going to be aimed at Aintree instead of the festival if what ive heard is right,

Im a bit worried about my bet on Faugheen at the moment as he hasnt appeared but hopefully they unleash him in the next 3 weeks.

Moyle Park could be an absolute machine based on what Blackmail did today!

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 3,132 ✭✭✭SRFC

The Mullins horse today was expected to win so good win for blackmail,If I remember correctly he gave Moyle park 7lb that day and lost by 4 lengths,Cant wait to see Moyle run again as the hype is starting to build.
