    Hi guys, here's the story.

Booked on an aerlingus flight to houston via chicago (with united) to go out on February 25th and return the 27th, for an event on the 26th. Just got announced that the event is changed to March 6th.

There's no point in me going over at all if I'm not going to the event, it's too short a time to enjoy any of the city and not worth jetlag etc so looking to lose all my money. Can't make any changes on the website, get told to contact the helpdesk which I will first thing in the morning, but how much am I looking at to change my dates?

Absolutely gutted to be hearing this right before bed on a Friday night, any advice would be welcome.

    Thanks everyone

€100 plus any difference in the fare, if I recall correctly.

If you have travel insurance it may well cover it. I know mine would so worth looking in to.

I don't. I was just going to buy some before I went on this trip but was waiting until February :(

No you can't buy travel insurance to cover something that has happened.

That's unfortunate, I know you know now, but always buy travel insurance before/while you start booking stuff for the trip.

But they dont know the event is changed. What if the op bought travel insurance on Monday and the event got changed the following week?

That would land you before the beak, and you could be holidaying in a place you hadn't planned !

That's insurance fraud. You would also need proof that the event got changed and the insurance company would in all likelihood find out that it was changed before the policy was taken out.

I can't imagine why you think suggesting someone commit insurance fraud on this website (or in general) is a particularily good idea..

Which policy is that? I've never found a policy that covers a change in plans for anything other than medical or bereavement reasons.
