Green area to run in Sligo.

I'm looking for a place to run in sligo. Ideally a grassy park area with maybe at least km lap. I don't want to run on the road/concrete. I used to run in my teens & got back into it briefly last year completing c25k when i was living in Galway. & what helped at the time was being able to run in the big green area in renmore. A new job in dublin fecked me up just as was finished c25k & looking forward to progressing.

    Any recommendations?

(Mods: i wasn't sure to ask here or in sligo, felt i might have more chance here, apologies if it should be under sligo.)

Can you get in at the racecourse?

Football pitches near you? Plenty of green areas along the river, just out of town. All depends on where you are in Sligo (assuming city for now)

I'm working in the town but living 20 minutes south of it. I was thinking anywhere in the town on an evening before driving home.

Found these two after i started this thread last night:

The first is obviously a track but i wonder is there a route the whole way around the grounds? The rest of the routes on that site look to be road.

Your best place is the racecourse as AKW says.
    See this thread: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=56285682

The first one above is Sligo IT, besides the track there are a few paths to run around.

Second one is Slish Wood - one of many wooded trails within easy reach of Sligo, others are Hazel Wood and Union Wood.

The race course, not sure of its exact distance, or the new cycling/walking track across from the Sports Complex.

Racecourse has both a tarmac path, and a grassy areas separate from the racing surface.

Not sure if the cycling/walking track is offically open as continuing works on it, but quite a few using it today, and distance is one mile. With alot using the grassy surface between the walking and cycling lanes.

Both are in the Cleveragh area of town.

The park in Kevinsfort (just left of the pin) has a path around it which is around 1k. From memory I think it's a kind of cinder track.

Excellent lads thanks for all the suggestions. I'll be checking out both the race course & kevinsfort.

Out of interest (and it may have been answered elsewhere) but does anyone have the distance for the new cycle/walk track opposite the Swimming Complex, up from Doorley park?

the pitches in the IT are nice set up. There are a few old GAA heads who will go bananas at you seem to forget that the IT is a public amenity not a GAA club
