Joke or serious?

This probably seems trivial compared to others peoples problems but it has been playing on my mind the past few days and is making me feel a little vulnerable.

Basically I am in the early stages of a relationship(well I thought I was anyway) with a man. We met a little over 2 months ago & have been meeting 3 - 4 times a week, in contact pretty much every other day. We stay at each others house, go out, go to the cinema etc all the couply type of things.

We've never actually discussed our status but we were watching a program during the week and basically, this guy comes back from a first date & changes his status on Facebook to "in a relationship". We were both laughing & I jokingly said in a fake shocked tone "you mean you haven't updated your relationship status yet" he laughed and said " I did yeah, to single" I didn't really know how to react so I just laughed.

I could be just reading into it too much. He isn't even on Facebook so the whole conversation was a mess but now I am concerned that he is just not as in to things as me.

I'm at a point where I am starting to develop feelings for him and I hate to think I've misread the situation. any opinions or advice?

I think you really need to chill out here OP. it was obviously a joke. You are making an issue about a Facebook status and the man doesn't even have a Facebook account!

Ask him where you stand relationship wise if you feel it'll make you more comfortable but casually bring it up in conversation and definitely don't mention the Facebook thing ever again..you'll come off a little crazy if you do!

OP you shouldn't have given this much thought. Some people don't care as much about facebook as others do and you made a joke so he was just replying in kind. In other words he takes facebook about as seriously as he thought you do. He was only making a laugh of the guy on television like you were. I'd say let it go, you sound like a couple that enjoys your time together, so the best thing I can say to you is don't base your relationship around anything facebook related.

That's probably my own personal bias coming out there but my wife is on facebook and tries to tell me about so and so's news on it, I'm not on facebook and I don't care about so and so's news, but I've seen far too many relationships where facebook almost becomes an integral part of the relationship and can cause more trouble in the relationship than it's worth.

You're better off that you can talk to each other and it's more important that you have a laugh with each other rather than like the guy in the video thinking you must update your status to let the world know you're in a relationship now, etc.

He was clearly joking. If you want to know the status of your relationship you can ask but from what you've said it sounds like you are in a relationship with him.

Well I guess the general consensus is that I am over reacting. I suppose I am being silly.

It wasn't so much to do with Facebook but the fact that he said he was single but it was in jest. Panic over lol

Sounds like a joke from him to annoy you a bit, just teasing.

Again the easiest way to find out is to ask him, couples generally do have a talk where they make it clear as day that they are in an exclusive relationship with each other.

It sounds like it was just a joke, but if it bothered you that much you clearly need to sit him down and ask him where you stand.
