Changing flight dates with Aer Lingus, medical-related. Is a refund possible?

I have an appointment at a hospital in England. Owing to a mistake on the hospital's part, the appointment date had to be changed--after they'd confirmed the original date with me and told me I could go ahead and book flights.

I had already booked flights with Aer Lingus, and the fee to change the flights (€80) is almost as much as the original cost of the flight.

The helpdesk is closed all weekend, and I can't find anything on the website. In the meantime I was wondering if any of ye knew anything? If I can show them proof of the appointment change, can I get refunded? It's a lot of money to just throw away.

I don't think you'll have any luck on that front unfortunately. The hospital appointment will not matter to them at all.

If you have travel insurance you may be able to claim off it.

Airlines are in the business of flying, insurance companies insure against risk, so you'll have to look to your travel insurance.
