Has anyone ever had any success from wanted ads like this one on donedeal?

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/4461734

Well written ad and seems someone likes their Renaults.

Placed one up before and had all sorts of rubbish offered to me.

Just wondering if others have had more success

    It's not there though.

It's in the regular for sale section.

@Chris, I'll never use adverts again. Mostly jokers on annoying sellers by getting them to a low price and then fecking off

I don’t know why you’d place a "Wanted" ad unless it’s a rare/ hard to find car. But someone looking for a 00/01 Laguna

Laguna 1 was the last of the good renaults
The laguna II was junk and diesel worse of the bunch... dont ask me how I know. :(

i put one up on done deal recently looking for an mgb gt, worded it very specifically like the renault ad and got 3 genuine replies, viewed 2 of them and bought one. i'd do it again next time i wanted something specific

That's the thing. If you are very clear about what you want you stand a good chance of getting it as it's clear you're not a messer.

My ad at the time was very vague as I didn't know myself but i'd be tempted to do it next time once I know what I want

I've only looked at that once and like yourself I normally just ignore it.

Putting the ad in with for sale ads is a good idea though once you know what you want

I put one up last year. I was looking for four door family saloon. I was specific that the car had to be 05 or newer, petrol engine no smaller than 1.6 and no bigger than 2.0. It had to have at least 12 months NCT and less than 90k miles (145k kms) nothing modified and no green cars and ABSOLUTELY NO French cars!

The first offer I got was for an 02 Almere 1.4 with 3 months NCT remaining and 115k miles on the clock. The person rang me and I asked them if they could actually read and when they said yes, I told them to go back and read the ad again.

The second offer was for a 3 door focus 1.4.

I then was offered a 99 Saab 9-3 2.3 turbo, a diesel Mondeo with 140k mikes and best of all a green Peugeot 407 estate diesel.

I removed the ad at that point

CJ I know from selling cars on DD that buyers are just as bad as sellers in that regard.

I've had very clear ads up describing the car in detail as I don't want people turning up and realising the car wasn't for them wasting both my and their time.

I've come across two problems with this though. If you give an honest description and point out a small scuff on a bumper nobody will call.

If you point it out over the phone they will assume it's thrashed and if you say nothing they turn up and complain about how the car is badly damaged.

There is no winning with some people.

People just don't read ads properly or else they try and catch you out by seeing if you know the info about the car (I assume it's a way to tell if someone is a trader).

I was selling a 323i last year, did a search to see prices and saw a wanted ad for a 323i/325i. Rang the guy, sold within 3 days and a tidy profit. Didn't have to even advertise it!
