    No power supply needed?

You should probably have a clear upgrade plan in mind if you plan to add to the build in the near future, do you plan on getting a much higher resolution monitor for example? A cheap H61 motherboard would limit your upgrade potential somewhat as well. I'd stick with either the AM3+ or 1155 over the FM2 platform as you are using a dedicated GPU.

When are you buying a new monitor?

4 trigs of ram is what you need for a rig like that

Oh wow I thought I added the Power supply :(
I will probably just keep the monitor that I have its fine.

I probably wont be buying a new monitor.
I one I have is fine

If you plan on gaming at that resolution then you don't need a graphics card. An onboard graphics card will do. Most people game on a 720P or 1080P monitor these days.

He'd still need a graphics card tbh, unless he doesn't mind playing at 10-20fps. Definitely doesn't need a 7850 though, 7770 would be a better choice.

7770 runs all new games on max settings at 1080P at 30 to 40 FPS. At that resolution an onboard graphics card would do fine

Well, it depends on the game. I tried bf3 with my intel i5 onboard gpu and it was barely playable at 640x480 on lowest settings. I definitely wouldn't settle for it if you can afford a decent graphics card.

Never tried battlefield 3 but installed far cry 3, dishonored on a hd400 i3 for a friend and they ran fine on 1200 res.
Sure if ya have the money get a 7750, but pointless really in my opinion if your gaming at 1024 resolution. A much cheaper card would probably do you.

Rational: GPU is cheap and will do for 720p, should be able to claw back at least €40 for second hand sale in a few months. Sell the HD6670 in July and buy something like HD7850/GTX660/HD7870 alongside new monitor.
The CPU is still more than good enough for current games like Far Cry 3(980 BE is same but just a few GHz faster), and it will tide you over until AMD release Steamroller probably early next year, after which point you could upgrade to the successor of the FX8320/8350 with a decent CPU cooler and overclock it.

Wait how do pay on hardwareversand??

You pay with Bank transfer... just a note about marco polo's build. The 6670 is the gddr3 version which is slower than the gddr5 version which is what reviews on the net will have shown (if you have checked)

That pc is fine for your current monitor, but once you need to play at a higher resolution that graphics card will be no use. The 7770 for only 45e more can play all games at 1920x1080 at decent settings. I've owned alot of high end cards ( 2xgtx 570, gtx 670, 660 ti etc) but I'm using the 7770 atm as I don't mind having to lower graphics settings on some games. If you went with that, you might not have to upgrade at all in the future and would save alot of hassle. If you really care about image quality though, then you would benefit from a better card so wouldn't bother going that route.

The x4 965 is good for gaming however it requires overclocking to reach its full potential, increasing its already high power consumption. Here's a good comparison of gaming cpu's http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-5.html

If you don't mind having to buy new parts in the future, then its an okay way to go.. but you can get a much better gaming pc (i3,7770) for pretty much the same price.

Swapping the cheapest H61 mATX motherboard, i3 and HD 7770 into my (now 955 based) build works out about €40 dearer, and the OP did say he was looking to replace some of the components in the near future, so I think it is better to build it around a solid base of decent Case, PSU, RAM and a motherboard with very good upgrade prospects, and compromise most initially on the parts that are easiest and most likely to be upgraded in the future.

I think taking the 15-20 euro hit on the 6670 by selling it on for six months is sensible enough and better option that getting a card that is already creaking at the eventual target resolution of 1080p, and then letting it age another six months at 720p, a resolution that it is much too powerful for.

I also completely disagree about the 965 (or the 955 in my revised build), is is perfectly adequate at stock for gaming, I still have one paired with a HD7850 and I haven't came across any game that has troubled and don't see myself requiring an upgrade in anytime in 2013.

I'm not saying its a bad cpu at all but the i3 3220 is better performance/power consumption wise. The only disadvantage of it is that its a dual core, however it has hyperthreading which makes up for this in most cases. I certainly can notice no difference between it and my i5 with gaming/general pc usage.

The 7770 has alot of life left in it but only if you don't mind lowering settings. Considering op is using a 1024x768 monitor I'm not sure if this would be important to him :D I don't think games released in the foreseeable future will require much more graphics power but I could be wrong.

If I were op though, I would save up a bit more and get a new monitor/pc all in one go. Imo it's a bit of a waste spending the best part of 400e knowing you're going to need to upgrade in the next couple of months. You loose money on having to pay shipping on the upgrades and the devaluing of the used parts.

    +1

CPU and gfx card will pretty much be disposable. At the res you will be playing at there is no point going overboard.

A solid case and psu combo cannot and should not be underestimated: crap cheap cases and crap cheap power supplies are always a waste of money as you end up dumping them once you realise they don't do the job.

I am running off a an antec p180 case and a seasonic 650w power supply I bought over 5 years ago. They are now in their 2nd build and still do a good job quietly. They were not cheap but they have lasted. budget at least €50+ for a case and the same again for a quality psu.

A cheap socket 1155 cpu and a cheap gfx card to get by.

I agree but on a a 420 budget I am just giving more weight to performance/euro over performance/watt.

I have no problem at all with the i3 suggestion except that it is over 100 and the minimum board that will allow future overclocking CPUs, the Pro 3, is 20 euros dearer on the 1155 platform :), leaving AM3 as the best upgrade path (Just in this particular case).

Since there is no rush on the GPU I just think it is better to see get something to tide over for now and see what the upper mid range market is like in the summer :)

Cpu's are so good nowadays overclocking isn't really needed, but its always nice to have the option I suppose. I used to be really into overclocking, got 4.9ghz out of my e8400 :D now I'm just lazy so leave everything stock.

If you find some more spare cash op, here's a nice value build with a monitor. These prices are discounted though so will show dearer in your basket.

I added a monitor to this build and this build is only 418 euro with shipping. The x4 965 in my opinion is a very good gaming CPU and will be fine for the next year or two or even longer. The graphics card is good enough at the 6670 for 720p gaming or 1200 res gaming. All he really needs to do then is to update the graphics card in July and maybe add an extra hardrive if he feels like it and an extra 4GB of ram. Theres no point getting a 7770 now if he cant get a new monitor.

I think he'd be better off getting something like a G860 for 50-whatever quid and going 1155. He can upgrade to an i3 or i5 a year or so down the line when people are ditching theirs - even the G860 is actually fine in games right now even at max settings with a good card, really. And at 1024x768, just go for a 7750 at about 75 euro, it's actually a decent card and at that res you'd be fine for awhile also, worth it for the tenner or 15 quid over a ddr3 6670.

7750 is a bit of a overkill for a 1024 monitor but suppose couldn't go wrong with it. It can run all new current games on high settings at 1600 resolution. If he was going to include a monitor he probably should spend the extra few euro on it or splash for a 7770.

I dont agree with the G680 over the 965. 965 is an excellent gaming CPU and and would do the person fine for 2 years or longer. Its on par with the i3

I'm not saying the G860 is better than the 965, and it has some serious inferiority like its inability to achieve OC's of any real consequence, but G860 and 7750 for example is a combo I'd much rather than a 965 and a 6670, even if the total cost of both is similar given that the 860's 30 quid cheaper - and the G860 is still good now for virtually all games at ultra settings if you had a 7850 or GTX570 class card.

I just think on a tight budget, the price: performance ratio of a G860 is far better especially when the vast majority of games are GPU limited rather than CPU - modern CPU's are just that good that even 50 euro processors can be paired with high end GPU's without any overclocking - that just wasn't possible a few years ago. Play any modern game at decent settings and a G860 with 7750 would decimate a 965 with 6670 even though the total cost would be the same.

The only real reason i picked the 965 is for the potential to overclock its successor with a 60 euro board, the Pentium is definately the best price performance ratio in the shorter term, but unless you get the z77 pro3 at 80 euro, your best potential upgrade will an i5 3570 which is not a bad place to end up at all, but i think the steamroller successor to the FX 8320 will also cost around 150 and even moderately overclocked will be a good bit faster than the i5 3470.
