Picked up a Golf edition R 2012 a month ago. 15km on clock for €18k

    diesel,touchscreen, 6 cd - bluetooth, A/C and CC

im coming from a 10 year old 1.4 petrol which died.

Cant say how happy I am with the car and should have changed a long time ago. Fantastic car.

However, I am entrigued is there much difference between the mark 6 and mark 7 golf - driving experience and interior, efficiency etc?

    any thoughts?

Don't think about it and enjoy your new car.

The Mark 7 seems to be a more polished product, but you would be paying a lot more than what you paid for one in a similar spec. It's not as if the Mark 6 was a bad car anyway.

Huge difference. The Golf 7 is an all new car, chassis platform, interior etc.

Whereas the Golf 6 is just a spruced up Golf 5

Don't forget the door handles also are now above the creaseline, those VW designers must have been on crack that day.

As said the MkVI was just VW's way of heavily facelifting the MkV and simplifying the suspension. The MkVII uses a totally new platform or in layman's terms, a blank canvas.

Visually, it hasn't changed much over the years and the MkVII is another evolution of that theme. VW know their target market and don't want to upset them with something daring.
