    Its the black lung Pop...

Drives me mad when people say they have the 'flu and they're functioning perfectly well, albeit with a rosy nose.

When you can't lie down, sit up, walk, sleep, talk, eat, drink or watch tv.. then you may have the 'flu.

How to tell if you have the flu.

If you you have a cold , and you notice someone has left a 50 euro note in your back garden , you struggle out and get it.

If you have the flu , you can't even face going out to get that.

9times out of 10 people have a cold , I can only ever remember have the flu once in my life , and TBH I didn't leave my bed for 48hrs except for to struggle to the toilet.

If someone is able to tell you they have flu then they have the cold

People telling me they have the flu when it's just a cold drive me absolutely mad. My husband got flu when the whole swine flu epidemic was big a few years ago. He lay in bed not moving for almost two weeks and it took another 2/3 weeks before he was right.

It's the same when people talk about getting the flu jab, I've heard people say I didn't get the flu last year so it's not worth me getting. Eh, real flu is a serious illness not an annual thing you get in the winter that you get over after a day or two.

When my husband had flu it turned out to be normal flu, not swine flu. Luckily I'd had the flu jab that year (at the time swine flu was new and not covered by the vaccination) and didn't get sick so I swear by it now, get it every year. I don't know what we would have done if both of us were laid out with it. It's a nasty, nasty thing.

Have had the flu twice. It's just fcukin painful all over.

Scientists have now proved it's a less severe form of man flu which thankfully I've never had.

Another funny term is 'fluey', as in 'feeling fluey' at work. So do they mean they are delirious with fever, aching all over, unable to make sense of normal coversation? If you have the flu, you can barely make it to the bathroom let alone outside of the house. You also wouldn't give a crap about that 50 in the garden, because it looks like a crisp bag to you.

I don't think I've ever had the flu. Even the colds I get aren't that bad.

I've had it twice I think, and I honestly would have preferred to just go to school at the time.

It was absolutely horrible, I couldn't do eat, sweat so much that the sheets had to be changed on a daily basis, couldn't eat anything and I got so skinny that you could clearly see my stomach muscles.

I looked totally ripped, but I'd never do it again.

I get the flu a couple of times a year. Sometimes Im able to shake it off before it really kicks in. Luckily enough I've never once had a cold though.

About three weeks to completely shake the drained feeling you get after a flu but your temperature peaks after a few days. I work in a chemist and we always get people saying theyve the flu when clearly they dont, if they did they wouldnt be in the shop

i had the flu for my two weeks of holidays over christmas. Didn't get up on christmas day... and left the house probably at most twice over those two weeks. Starting to feel my throat closing up a little so I hope I don't have any sort of cold flu or cough coming my way, especially after having the flu so recently

I have a cold right now, runny nose, sniffles, block sinuses. I have tried some natural remedies like Sudafed and Budweiser and neither of them help to alleviate my symptoms. I will have to look east, some Tiger balls or something.

Sudafed and budweiser, what the hell? I must try sometime ha.

Cold's can be bad too. Sometimes when I get a cold it turns into a sinus infection which can last for a long time. I would rather get the flu any day than get a sinus infection. Those things are extremely irritating.

Have not had the flu in many a year. Last time i had it, i lost a stone and a half in just under 2 weeks. I kept getting violently sick, i couldnt even hold down water. Got to the stage where i was puking up the lining on my stomach. My mother started to get really worried when i became delirious, my temp was so hi. On the up side, when the doctor came to the house he said you only get the flu that bad once in your life time.

Always getting colds, and moaning makes me feel better:D but i laugh at people when they have the "flu".

Yep, the mother in law had a cold at the end of November and got a sinus infection from it.... Then got blocked up ears because the sinus infection was so bad and could barely hear.

Then got progressively worse over the last few weeks... was finally brought into hospital last week because the doctor said she had the flu and then to cap it all off was diagnosed with pneumonia and will be in hospital for another week at least.
    Pretty crappy :(

It depends on the person I suppose. Whenever I get the flu it usually only lasts a few days, whereas the sinus infection could last a couple of weeks.

I reckon I got the flu. felt ill about 2-3 weeks ago and needed to go home from work, overnight I could not breathe in or out, could not move from the bed lay slumped against a radiator without feeling warm. Blood pressure was up around 170 over 110! Went to the doctor and and he put me on 6 steroid tablets a day, anti-biotics and 2 different types of inhalers, was crippled for a few days until finally things started to clear up. Roll on two weeks later WHAM its back, no energy, could not move, felt as though I would die, could not eat, been barely able to move since Thursday, so back to the doctor to get more antibiotics, last night I could not move and sweat all night so much the duvet cover was drowned. went to weigh myself to find I'd dropped nearly a stone in weight over he last week or two just from being sick.

I would say I only got the flu once. I wasn't able to get out of bed for a week. An ordinary cold can be very debilatating though especially if you have a sinus infection. Nothing to sneeze at.

Must be bad if only able to manage budweiser.

:( I had that happen once as a teenager. Must have missed about a month of school with it, then I got it AGAIN about a month later but it went a bit quicker. Very much was flu though.

I think people call colds flu because of the reaction "cold" gets.

"I have a cold" (feeling absolutely AWFUL and quite unwell and really fit for nothing other than bed) gets a response of "Ah sure it's only a cold"

"I have the flu" gets a response that's a bit more sympathetic and takes the person a bit more seriously. Most people are probably thinking "nah, if you had the flu you wouldn't be able to tell me that you have the flu... but it's probably a really bad cold and you're probably actually suffering with it".

Cold just seems so.... so like it doesn't matter and shouldn't have an impact on you!

My husband had adult chicken pocks for 3 weeks, in bed and he couldn't stand noise, I nearly smothered him with a pillow towards the end.

I think Mr Mountains and I had the swine flu, 2 years ago, was it, when the big epidemic was on. He was just back from the US, and others on his flight also got very sick shortly after getting home.
I remember on top of all the fever, etc... feeling battered like someone had kicked me in the ribs, legs, all over. That was the pain the body was in. I had to check if I had bruises it was that bad. There was a cough with that flu, you'd nearly cry with the pain every time you had to cough. It took a long time to come back to normal form, 3 weeks or so.

The 2 children were vaccinated, in great form, and had to more or less take care of themselves for the first 4 days. We had to take shifts with Mr to throw them some scraps :o. Thankfully it was kind of staggered, and mine started 2 days after his (you could pinpoint the exact hour it started), so he was a bit better able to cope.

I rang the doc but of course was told not to call in (don't think would have been able to anyway), so we never knew for sure.

edit : good thing to have freezer stocked up for these eventualities.
