I read the manual. I'm pretty sure I'm using the things right. But the fucking things are always left with water in the God damn drum! This is the second washing machine in the apartment building, and the second to do this to me. I know it's not the filter, because I pulled that Mother fucker out and it was grand. The Interbutts tells me it could be the pump, but what are the chances of it being the same thing every fucking time? I'm getting tired of this shit!! I WANT CLEAN CLOTHES AND BED THINGIES, YOU THUNDER CUNT!!!!

Help me, AH. You're my only hope.

sounds like a plumbing problem letting water flow back in to the machine.

Are you sure it's not the Microwave you're using?:pac:

On a more serious note, if it's the second one to do it to you, that could indicate an issue with the drain in the apartment or the drainage outlet.

Yeah, I left it for four hours or some shit, waiting for the little red door light to piss off but that son of a bitch stayed right where he was. The manual said that if it stayed locked, I gotta leave it turned off for three minutes, and it unlocks. So I did that, and lo, the flood gates did open and mine feet did drown in the suds.

    EDIT:

So I'm possibly not retarded about washing machines, is that what you are saying? I should ask the landlord to look at the plumbing? What bit should I tell her to look at? I mean, a certain part of the drain, or just the bit connected to the machine?

I remember plumbing in my dishwasher and it specified how high the waste pipe should be.

Too high and I imagine the water stays stuck in the natural U-bend of the waste pipe at the back of the machine.

So it may be that the waste pipe is too high behind the machine.
You may need to take a hacksaw to the plastic pipe and lower it.

You need to disconnect the washing machine from the drain and try pouring water down the drain hole to see if the drain can take water easily. If it doesnt then tha is your problem. Washing machine outlet hoses need to be connected to the pipe at a certain height and the pipe needs to be free flowing.

Often the connected kitchen sink drain is full of greasy hairy gunk that blocks the pipe partially and the machines drain pump will stop working if it encounters a blockage like this.

See if your kitchen sink is draining slowly and if so that is your problem.

Definitely sounds like a drainage issue then. Washing machines also have a "drain" cycle which does what it says on the tin, it drains the machine. Try this the next time the machine is stuck full of water and see if it works.

It probably won't though. There are things you can do that will take a couple of minutes to check it without having to call in the landlord.

Pull the machine out - it's stupid heavy due to a huge concrete block in the bottom, so be careful. It's really easy to tear vinyl flooring by trying to just pull the machine out. There's a flexible grey rubber hose coming out of the back of the machine. This is your waste pipe. Make sure there are no kinks in the pipe.
It should be connected to something. In a house it's usually connected directly to a drain, but in an apartment since the machine is the kitchen, the pipe is usually connected to the outlet under the sink. Disconnect it and make sure the outlet isn't blocked or anything like that.

Right OP, the problem is that the door wont open until the cycle is complete.
Your machine wont end the cycle until the water levels have dropped.
As it's unable to discharge the water itself you'll have to do it manually.
Down low on the front of the machine there should be a drain outlet or hose, normally just below the filter.
Get a low tray & be ready for some bailing.
Once you've removed enough of the water the machine will recognise this & move to the next cycle.

    As it's the 2nd machine I don't believe it's a drain pump problem.
Look under your utility or main sink, whichever it's nearest to.
You should be able to see where the drain hose is pushed onto a branch of your sink outlet plumbing.
Pull off this hose & blow into the end of the pipe.
If the air comes whistling out the drain/filter door on your machine the blockage is not there.
Your washing machine uses the same plumbing as your sinks & toilet so if you're not seeing problems there you can rule that out.

The washing machine is downstairs. Myself and one other apartment use it.

I went down to it when I got home, took a peek around the back and saw a tube going from the back through the underside of a door. Hop on the machine, look through the gap over the door, and the pipe is doing an impression of the Loch Ness Monster. There's a pipe going into the cement about three feet high which the draining pipe goes into. I pick the lock using my elite skills (I live in Limerick), and proceed to make that cement pipe bit my ho. Drain is all neat, now. Wash some bedclothes.

Result, AH. I will be sleeping nicely.

    THANKS!

This is the second washing machine in the apartment building, and the second to do this to me.

Apartment building eh. Just wait there until a hot girl shows up and helps you. Then have sex with her, making sure you cover all positions: doggie, missionary cow girl, A2M etc. Do the same to her friend when she shows up. Roll credits. Bow chicka wow wow.

It's taken me a month, since moving into the place I'm in, to figure out the washer/dryer.

The absolute joy yesterday when it all worked out.

In my last apartment the washing machine itself had a rare problem. It did the whole cycle thing, finished the cycle all drained, you open the door and take your lovely clean clothes out. Then the drum starts filling with water very slowly for about an hour until the drum is half full and then stops filling!

Turns out the fix was to replace some part inside the machine that was faulty. A part was ordered from Hotpoint and voila the machine never filled up again!
