    Hi,
I was planning on ordering a laptop from a US-based eBay seller. It's a Lenovo Ideapad Y580 and costs $1041 plus another $96 for shipping. Wondering what I should expect to pay with regards to import duty and VAT?
Any help would be appreciated :)

Voltage will be different too, i'm assuming. You'll probably need to get a new power supply to reduce the input voltage from 240v, rather than the 110v the US uses.

I've actually checked this out already and was informed there wouldn't be any issues as long as I used a travel adapter for the plug.

Laptop power supplies usually work anywhere, from 100 to 240V.

There is no import duty on laptops, however, customs will hit you with 23% VAT.

You'll be better off just replacing the power lead, it's most likely a clover-leaf or figure of eight.

    So either buy this ..

    or this...

For the sake of a fuse on the plug, I'd go this route.
