1080p Monitor

    Hello all,

I am currently gaming on a 1280x1024 19" monitor. My system contains:

    Celeron G530
    4GB RAM
    HD 6870

Currently looking to get a 1080p monitor, playing the Spec Ops: the Line in letterbox was bit off a let down considering I know my PC is capable of far more than 1280x1024 gaming. I'm tired of low resolution gaming at 5:4.

I think 24" might be best, considering I am no more than 2 feet from my PC. My father's 21.5" iMac's screen always seems big to me and I don't think I really need 27".

How about this Acer? £120 free shipping to boot.

Shipment is actually £12 as the seller only offers free delivery to the UK. I'd personally go with this instead as it's an IPS panel. I'd have a hard time recommened a monitor that isn't IPS these days tbh.

Bought the 21" version of this and it is excellent

    TN is better for gaming.

Cheap IPS panels are nothing special, they have better viewing angles and worse response time. That's it.

24" viewed at 2 feet - viewing angle might be quite important (?)

May I ask what the advantage of an IPS monitor is? I am interested in buying that LG monitor.

Supposedly the LG uses a quite similar panel to the more expensive Ultrasharp 2312hm, which is of a pretty decent standard for gaming (The LG is just a little less features rich and a lower quality stand etc).

I've had the lg for a week now having been spoiled by the IPS display on my One X, its a very nice screen the only complaint I have is the wobbly stand my desk is wobbly which doesn't help..But its miles ahead of any TN I have ever used and has 5ms response time, apparently thats good I haven't noticed any ghosting as of yet.

Does it have a VESA mount on the back?

I'm interested in that LG IPS screen, but the cheap wobbly stand worries me. My desk is quite solid but I don't want a slightly wobbling screen when I'm typing.

I've looked at clamp VESA monitor mounts on ebay and amazon but holy god they are expensive, looking at €50-60! Could anyone recommend any reasonably priced VESA monitor mounts for such a screen?
