Sky have announced that from the 2013/2014 season, subscribers will be able to watch full delayed coverage of EPL games not televised live.

While not perfect,it's still a chance to watch your favourite team & maybe will eventually lead to the televising of more live matches in the UK just as foreign football fans get the chance to watch pretty much any game they want live.

Who remembers the days when RTE used to show delayed coverage from 3pm.I used to avoid all media & watch the game 'as live'.

Premier League fans will be able to watch a full rerun of the game of the day each Saturday just three hours after the final whistle from next season.

The move by Sky Sports is another huge step forward for the broadcaster who announced the decision as part of a move to make 2013/14 the biggest ever.

A three-year agreement is in place which will allow subscribers to the channel to watch all 226 top flight matches that are not shown on live television at 8pm on Saturday.

Not for much longer - apparently the EPL want to restrict the foreign rights because pubs in England are buying foreign satellite cards and showing the games on Saturday afternoon (they took a test case against a publican to prevent this but lost). Foreign broadcasters will only get one Saturday afternoon game and will be banned from running English commentary.

Don't Sky already do this with the Football First programme every Saturday?

I'm not so sure that this is actually the case. The Mail article looks like it was hastily written by a careless intern......

    The Sky statement:
"We’ll give fans the first chance to see extended highlights of all the matches every Saturday, as well as the key moments throughout the week. Add these rights to our 116 live matches from next season, which include MNF and Super Sunday double-headers, and Sky Sports truly remains the home of the Barclays Premier League."

And another site quotes the same Sky statement which is merely trumpeting an extension of the existing extended highlights package.

    See here.

$ky have paid massive money to keep hold of the rights for the EPL, and they will be putting up customers bills accordingly over time to pay for this, so I suppose they have to be seen to be giving you something in return.

It seems they will choose the 'game of the day' from the Saturday 3pm kick offs & show that in full later in the evening & the remaining matches will be part of the Football First show.

Still it's an improvement over the ever declining MOTD.

    Right.

So nothing different to what they currently do then.

Isn't football first highlights though not the full game?

They currently show a 3pm game in full every Saturday evening. This new deal is only an extension of what they already have.

Exactly. It is simply a deal for the continuation of Football First, I understand the only change of substance is that it can start slightly earlier.

Probably bad news for Irish subscribers - doubt we will get free BT like we do "free" ESPN at the moment

So called anti competitive EU laws only meant multiple subscriptions instead of 1

Extended highlights after 10. Full game before all the interactive stuff kicks in

The game of the day they show @ around 8 isn't a full game from what i remember & the didn't show the clock either - annoying , it's more like extended extended highlights

the match choice after is extended highlights

    long live the streams

those are for linear rights seemingly. the non-linear rights ie IPTV on demand are yet to be announced and its expected that BT will pick up those according speculation on digitalspy....this article explains the difference

    http://www.rapidtvnews.com/index.php/2012050421684/premier-league-increases-live-tv-matches-expands-on-demand.html

so in theory you could have BT offering the same thing as sky's football first at the same time on their BT vision service but only if BT win the non-linear rights..
