    Hi there,

Can someone please help me. I'm 21 and became unemployed on the 31st December 2012. Signed on on the 3rd of January. Just got my decision - and I'm getting 100 euro a week Jobseekers Allowance. Should I not be getting Jobseekers Benefit? Up to the 31st I was getting around 500 euro a week. Paid my PRSI and all.

The qualifying year for claims made in 2013 is 2011.

    note the prsi contributions required.

For claims made before 7/1/13 2010 is the qualifying year. For claims made on or after 7/1/13 2011 is the qualifying year.

Isnt the rate the same? Jsa is better in some ways. Unless it changed, the week is based on 6 days not 5 and it's not taxable.

No the rate isnt the same if you qualify for jsb then you can get €188 per week depending on your average weekly earnings in the qualifying year. Jsa payment if under 25 years is means tested on claimants parents earnings (if living at home) and claimants own earnings. There is also an age related payment. If under 25years jsa is a graduated payment scale.
