I have a battery that runs flat very quickly. Has been like that since I got the car 2nd hand. 07 civic. Is there a chance that it's a problem with the car?
I don't want to get a battery if it's a problem with the car

    Quite easy to check.

Run a car for a long time to ensure battery is fully charged, then disconnect battery and after your "very quickly" ;) time check how's battery going.

If you have possibility to get a multimeter it'd be even easier.

Also, many of garages/motorshops will check battery's condition free of charge. :)

Cool. And would the motor factors be unbiased with their assessment of the battery, or inclined to sway me towards purchasing a battery from them?

To be honest - it is possible.

Do you have anyone with multimeter?

May be able to get one in work. Cheers for the tip

A multimeter won't show the condition of the battery, your local motor factor
will load test your battery FOC.

No, it obviously won't show battery's condition.

But it will show if any leaks of current appear. :P

A volt meter can test a battery
Once fully charged it needs to be left sit with nothing connected for 24 hrs.

A good battery holding its charge should still read 12.6 volts. Any lower and its weak or faulty.

Its very time consuming testing this way so I recommend getting it tested in a motor factors or garage as they often don't charge for testing.

5 years is a good age on a battery.
