I was walking the dogs in the middle of a woods off the beaten path.
When I came across what looked like paths scraped into the ground all the dead leaves were removed and the paths all interlinked and were about 8" across and 10 to 15ft long, some what in a random vein like pattern, At certain points there where small pits where the animal could have dug out worms etc.
Whatever scent was there drove the dogs wild. I looked around for a good while but could see no burrows anywhere at all. In fact the area was quite flat.

I was going to say this too (honest!). Badgers have quite short legs and are fairly low to the ground, so tend to create these slight hollows along their habitual routes.

I thought this too, however there is no sign of a set anywhere close. There was no trail to the site and it was not there the week before.

Maudi, I can not see it been squirrels the damage is to much.
The badgers collecting bedding sounds interesting but the lack of a set close by, throws me. I will head back that way this weekend weather permitting and try get a few images.
