Remember their cartoons that RTE would show every so often during the 80s?

And 10-15 minute shorts - not necessarily cartoons. They were a bit gritty or arty for my childish sensibilities. "Can we not have looney tunes."

must look them up on youtube because honestly I can't remember them at all. I do remember the godawful Czech and Yugoslav ones that got shown, that'd be enough to put you off socialism on its own.

I don't remember the NFB, but just reading up on them I see they were responsible for a short that I liked and reckon everyone should check out

It's weird that it's over 60 years old as the whole look/feel of it seems oddly contemporary.

    Reminded me of this!

Remember the Canadian ones and some French(?) ones that were educational and mildly entertaining.

I'm not sure if this is Canadian but I remember seeing it shown on RTE in the 80's as a filler between programmes and it seems to match what the OP is talking about.

There's quite a lot of NFBOC shorts on youtube. The first one on here about fire was shown on RTE when I was young,it's very funny cracked me up laughing seeing it again.

With the obvious sponsorship of the Nat. Film Board of Canada I wondered why Ireland didn't produce films live action and animated just like the parochial Canadiens.

One film that I seen a few times was The Sweater. Watching it again I'm reminded of a few images since then incld. Male lover distracted by sports on radio(similar to a Sky sports advert in this century). Also some similar images to Graham Knuttell.

This thread might be more contemporary (and less retro) than you'd imagine on first reading.

are two Scottish brothers that that make pretty top notch electronic sound as well as wondeful album titles:

This came up on Maconie's BBC Radio 6 music last week, and it's so cool to get a reminder of what lies behind the name here ....

I remember those! Although I'm Canadian and was forced to watch them(we had 3 channels, no cable, sigh:(). I must apologize on behalf of Canada for making you watch the crappy one's as children. Some of them were ok, but some were just plain weird!

Liked the logo that used to appear at the start of their shorts. I have a soft spot for these unusual animated shorts that RTE used to show as schedule fillers in the 80's.
