    How's things?

I'm on the look out for a new car and I've been told to stay away from anybody selling cars in Ballymount. I'm just wondering what peoples experiences have been (good or bad) when dealing with garages in that area?

There's a car that's for sale in one of the garages up there that I really like and I was going to get before I heard this so I'm looking for information before I take the plunge.

    Cheers

To be fair a few of them around the area have been there for donkeys years and others change names as regularly as they do their stock. You could do a solocheck to see how long particular garages are trading but most important of all go with the merits of the car itself not the garage and get it checked thoroughly be a qualified mechanic.

Thanks for the reply. How do I do a solo check? I don't know any mechanics. I suppose I could offer a mechanic a few bob to come and have a look at it?

    Thanks,
    Daniel.

Just put in the company name and it will tell you when the company was registered. ;)

Is there a car in particular you're interested in? If so throw up a link to same.

Those lads are there since I think 08/09 off the top of my head. Car seems reasonably priced but they're not a car I know a lot about / known faults, etc. As stated pay a mechanic to check it out and also to VERIFY the SH. I.e. not just read the book but call the garages concerned who serviced the car to confirm works stated. ;)

Where would I get such a mechanic do you know?

Whereabouts in general do you live in Dublin? I'm sure someone near you could recommend one. Average indy mechanic charges €50 / hr labour so including traveling times plus looking over the car be prepared to pay them €100. ;)

Just assume everything dealer says is a lie unless u check it out urself and don't use an warranty given as a safety net !! Buy and sell had ads before for placed inspecting cars haven't looked lately ! Also get the chassis and engine no and do history check these type of dealers sometimes get decent cars but it's usually by chance ! Best of luck !

I don't live a million miles away from the garage. I'm in the Dublin 12 region. Would a mechanic be able to do all what goochy is recommending below?

That's the approach I take but I'll end up with no car if I continue thrusting nobody! Would a mechanic be able to carry out these checks for me?

    Cheers

Know someone who bought a car off them and they seem sound lads, sell plenty of high end second hand cars bmws and mercs few subaru's,One note if interest though was driving by a while ago and seen armed detectives pulling up onto the garage and having a chat with the owners.

It's a known fact that criminals are involved in the used car trade in Dublin not saying thisVplace are though and they dont mind bringing trouble on themselves selling dodgy I am usually put off by places full of fancy cars but which operate from shabby premises I wouldn't say I am a snob but when I see car dealers run by ' howa' yez ? ' I always try to imagine how a bank manager could give them finance to open a business !

Bring a mechanic what ever you do I was looking at an x5 jeep in one these garages the salesman told me it was just serviced ect ect had a look under the bonnet no oil in it yet oil all over the engine cover thing was in bits noises coming out of it when started up absolute chancer,Had another experience with another garage agreed on a price took a few days to get a mechanic out looked over the car test drive ect then the salesman tries to claim we agreed a figure 500euro more,so I left it on principal as much as I wanted the car.

Everything else aside, what do people think of the actual car? Good, bad or indifferent?

    Hi all!
Just wanted to take the forums to vent. I bought a 2004 VW gold in AS cars BALLYMOUNT. I had tough time dealing with them from start to finish. Here is a rough list of the messing that wents on! Needless to say STAY AWAY!!!!

1)arrive to pick up car and a piece of the bumper that had been agreed to be fixed was not fixed after 1 week of waiting
    2) supposed it take countless phone calls, probable lies telling me the part was "on its way"
    3) The timing belt had been agreed to be done if it was needed. I find out afterwards it was needed had to go back and spend a whole day off work to get it sorted.
    4) That day he manages to take part for my bumper of another VW and insert is on mine.
    5) The car is now rattling after getting the TB done. Bring it back and wait another few hours to get sorted. More time off work and more money lost for me.
    6) The car still doesn't feel right to this day as it seemed to lose a little power after I got the ratting fixed but I just can't go back to them again. No time for it.
    7) All this time I am ringing about 4 times a week to get my log book. Got told so many times it was on the way. In all I got it but it took almost 3 months to get the ownership papers.

All in all the worst communication I have ever seen from a company! I canont emphasize how many times I rang <snip> the garage to get told "Ill ring yout back in 5 only never to hear back."

Without wishing to sound smart, after all what was said on this thread and what you could of found about the named company on boards I wonder why you still even went ahead with the purchase?

Yes… I’d stay away from any of them small Cottage garage’s in Ballymount…
I drive down the Ballymount turnpike road to work most mornings and do see the Armed Garda Response unit parked outside one of the garages on that road.

XXXXe & Son Motors Limited is one of the garages I’m talking about.

Apparently he lives down in Kilnamanagh now and his house gets regularly raided by Gardaí.
Wonder what the Gardaí are looking for… A good deal on a car … lol…
