Two cars, each insured for third party only, involved in a 50/50 collision, shared responsibility. Both cars badly damaged. Can they claim repairs of each other's third party insurance?

Each of them should be able to claim 50% of the damage off the other guy's insurance and take the hit on the other half.

If their insurers agree, yes, they can claim 50 percent against the other party. Just because they agree split liability doesn't mean that their insurers will and their insurers could just accept knock for knock which would leave both drivers to deal with their own with no help from their insurers.
