*cough* It's 'Xperia' not 'Experia' *cough*

No official release date but a lot of sources are pointing to a February release. Looking to be roughly €650 sim free.

Also available to preorder on amazon.de for 650 sim free
That's a bit expensive, hope the prices come down.
Well they probably won't on expansys, but hopefully will elsewhere.

Sony's Facebook page says it will launch on all Irish networks towards the end of February.

reckon it will be priced the same a Samsung Galaxy S3 on Meteor?

I'm either getting an s3 or this but unsure.....any opinions would be greatly appreciated. :):)

Xperia Z is a better phone. Samsung SIII is cheaper.

Depends which is more important to you.

If you can hold off for another 2/3 months the samsung galaxy s4 will likely be out.

    Thanks for the replies.

Reckon I'm going for the Sony....looks good plus the free mdr-r1 headphones have swayed me

The mdr-r1 is a good incentive alright

Review on the headphones here from Amazon MDR1R

Still very undecided between this, the N4 or S3

Hopefully it will be priced similar to the S3 on billpay

Better specs doesn't automatically mean a better phone.

Looks a beast of a phone for sure.

The Samsung note is €100 more than the samsung s3.

I'd be surprised if the Xperia Z was priced along side the note as opposed to the s3......or maybe that's just wishful thinking?!

I personally like the design of this phone, its better than the plastic back you get on samsung smartphones -not saying that samsung smartphones are bad or anything..
Even though it has glass on the front and back like the iPhone 4/4S , Nexus 4 , I love the glass back of all of these phones, shows great build quality and craftsmanship.

The Sony Xperia Z is definitely the phone to raise the bar so far in 2013...!

I see 02 have released their price plans for this phone.
Is there likely to be any difference between the networks pricewise.
Tempted to go ahead with 02:eek:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,707 ✭✭✭IncognitoMan

I had a look at the 02 price plans and my advice is dont go near them until they realise that for 40e a month they have to be offering more than 350mb. 60e you would have to pay to get 5gb

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,914 ✭✭✭podgeandrodge

Have a look at the ZL (sister to the Z) - same specs but

    :more compact
:has camera button unlike Z (afaik)
    :not waterproof like z

Only available sim free don't think the operators will be stocking it - but if you want more compact and camera button more than waterproofing....

Some info on the remote control functionality - to hell with waterproof, I am getting the ZL!

Why on earth would anyone sign up to either of those contacts? What's the point in owning a smartphone if you have a days allowance of 350mb?

    Has anyone gotten this?

I missed the pre order as I was waiting to see the htc one at the time, so missed out on the headphones :(

I ordered the phone from amazon yesterday as they dropped the price and are giving a £50 voucher to use on Amazon.

Those headphones would ave been nice though...

There's a few people over on the three forum who have gotten it. Seem very impressed so far

I have it. Upgraded from an S2 and very happy so far. No mention of the headphones but I pre-ordered within an hour of Meteor putting up the link so should be a pretty safe bet.

Camera is fantastic, a little slow to start up but it's excellent. Video quality is also really good.
Mini apps, is that a Sony feature?, really cool idea and very useful.
I haven't tested the waterproof capabilities as yet but I'm sure I will.
Battery seems ok so far. Stamina mode essentially just shuts down mobile data while the screen is off. Useful if you're not to bothered about receiving realt time updates and can wait until you're actaully using the phone.

Yeah I've seen videos where the camera is slow to start. Hopefully a bug and Sony will fix that.

I'm really hopeful that Sony will be timely with updates, especially now that their launcher is very minimal.

Coming from an iPhone I'm used to timely updates lol.

I see it can also sync your phone from your iPhone backup.

I too have gone from an S2 to the Z. It's a fantastic phone and I'm actually shocked at how good the battery is in comparison. I've used Strava cycling to work which basically emptied the S2 battery within an hour but on the Z the same thing only used up 1%.

I, too, have moved from the Galaxy S2 to the Xperia Z. Got the phone Monday, but only got a SIM this evening for it. Loving it so far, finding it pretty snappy! As for the camera, I didn't notice it being any slower than the SGS2, though I've not tested the camera much yet.

It's nice having a notification LED that flashes if you get texts etc. Small simple thing that many phones have, but lacked on the SGS2.

I'd like to get that dock station for charging it, handier than opening that flap to stick in the USB cable!

This sounds unlikely. Unless the battery stats were skewed.

How do you guys find the screen? A lot of people poopooing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,834 ✭✭✭dloob

I have one, pretty happy so far.
    Using it to post this.
I moved from an iPhone 4 so the size is a big change, surprisingly light though.
Battery life is enough to get home in the evening but needs a top up then.
Web browsing seems to be a big drain that also makes it quite hot.
The screen does have poor viewing angles, if I look over at it lying flat on the desk it appears washed out.
I'm a big fan off the notification led which I missed from my HTC hero when I had the iPhone.

I didn't get it through an operator so no headphones for me, but I did get a small Bluetooth NFC speaker with it, it's surprisingly good for its size.

I think they had 150, whereas Three had only 50. So maybe they still have some left?

I was in a meteor store this afternoon. Looks like this is an on going deal. The offer is from Sony and not the mobile networks.

Thinking about moving from o2 Iphone to this Sony with meteor. What is the coverage on meteor like these days?

Would you guys recommend this upgrade. I've been using an iphone for years now..

I definitely would recommend it. I've been using the iPhone since the first one came out way back when. I got the Xperia Z on Monday and couldn't be happier so far. :)

Same here, Iphone since day one and I have no complaints but I'm bored with it now.

I wanted to hear from another user like myself. I think i'll pick one up over the weekend... the headphones are nice little bonus.

Ohh just to note the migration tool from an iPhone backup worked well for me.
Copied across all the texts, notes and photos.
I already kept contacts synched with google so didn't need that bit.

My only issue at the moment is syncing music.
I have a lot of things ripped in apple lossless which itunes down converts for copying to devices, but I can't find anything to do the same for android.

Phone arrived this morning and now it's back in its box ready to go back.

Yuck, what was Sony thinking with that screen. Looks like the screen from the Htc Titan only difference is the resolution.

I was going to have a look at the htc one too but if you head over to xda and have a look at the last couple ofmpagesmin the one super thread you'll change your mind on that too.

Now it going to have a look see at what Samsung are going to introduce.

It's a pity Asus aren't releasing the padfone infinity as a stand alone phone as I have no use for the tablet part.

Having been spoiled by the screen and build of the ipad 3 and iPhone 5 I will not accept sub par build quality and components.

I've got one and i love it. I'm trying to figure out what it is with the screen some of you dont like. If you look at it at an angle its not the greatest, but why would i want to look at it at an angle? I'd recommend it, it's excellent and cleaning it under a tap is a satisfying yet nerve racking experience.
