Maybe go on http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/index.php they have a painting section full of great advice.

You have to sand back between the high build primer, and the basecoat. The link on there will give on a tutorial and all explaining where to go.

No worries, it is a great website, I would say the most useful I have see in painting.
Which paint are you using ? I might be able to summarize some answer for you.

I am not going any further than primer myself wouldnt have the confidence. The car is a 1962 NSU Prinz 3.I restored a Prinz 4 and the paint used was base with laquer. A friend painted it in my workshop, I intend to get this painted in a spray shop. Prinz 4 can be seen at www. nsuclubireland.ie

You have the equipment, then move on to the topcoat - not too difficult withn cellulose ( from Vinny Byrne )

Like cooking, it's all in the prep - you have a primer on, then get one coat of 50/50 red/primer (satin red), then wet sand with 400 grade and you'll find all the imperfections, cover again with satin red and sand again - if you wish at this time then get it done in a spray booth but I used to spray outside in all weathers with Dulux/Valspar thinned with petrol :eek::eek::eek: on 'bangers' - IF I was doing a 'good' job then I'd use cellulose but be wary of the humidity that can cause 'bloom' ( milky finish ). I was wary of the 2 pack as it has isocyanides :eek::eek: that-are-not-good-for-you

    My wife's speciality :p:p

In my spraying days,I used to get my 'customers' to prep their own cars, then I'd spray them ( outside, behind the filling station on a Sunday morning :eek: ). 'Ikea' style, cheap spray job, they did the hard work, I did the 'professional' end of it and they got to appreciate how difficult the prep was, but they couldn't blame me if there was sandpaper lines in the result :p:p:p

i note your friend sprayed the first car, and you intend to do the second one in a spray booth. is this because the one done in your shed was not as good as you would like.
My friend ,also yours gerry has been doing my NSU over a long period and I am now considering giving the paint job to a professional, asuming i can find one who is not too dear. Gerry was on for doing it ,but I think that means in the summer.

    regards Rugbyman

    Hello Mikekc
Our job got delayed for various reasons, the engine is rebuilt from top to bottom . the question now is what stage of paintwork are we aiming for, like is the engine compartment to be sprayed inside or just cleaned and brushed up. if the former then the engine cannot go in yet. so decision time shortly so as to see you on the road this summer.
gerry is well on on his Prinz 4 and I want him to proceed, neither of us can hold back the years, on OURSELVES ,!!! not the cars
by the way are there any original irish 110 s in existence. there were photos on here of a mzj red one emerging from a shed , but all the ones pictured at meets seem to be zv.(other than the SHI one)

    Hi Rugbyman
Glad to hear you might be ready for this summer,Dont know of any SHI 110 ,are you sure it isnt RHI.All the other ones I have seen are 1200.We certaintly cant hold back the years thats why I am now taking a bit more time for myself. The RHI is mine. My Prinz 3 would be ready for our first meeting at Limerick Racescourse, only I spent a month helping a club member getting his Prinz 3 ready., hope he will be out this season
