    Hi
First off - I know zero about cars except how to drive:o
I just had my car looked at to get it ready for NCT, have been told I need the following
1 sensor in the front (ABS/ESP warning has been on since shortly after last NCT)
    1 sensor in the rear
    Brake pads
    Droplinks
    2 injectors

Would very much appreaciate if anyone have any idea what I can expect to pay for the lot to be done

The injectors will be the killer. As you sure they need to be done? Ca running rough or not running at all? I would price these first and then decide if it is worth doing the rest.

    Thanks oldmanmondeo
I mentioned to guy that looked at it that mpg is very bad - only averaging about about 30-35 for 1.6 diesel. He said that injectors may need doing but may not so I just added them to the list to get an overall idea of costs involved

Injectors could easily set you back €1k. You would want to be sure there are at fault. Did the mechanic run a diagnositic on it? Could be many reasons for the MPG to be so poor.

Abs sensors will cost in the region of around €40 each...
    http://www.ebay.ie/sch/i.html?_trksid=p3907.m570.l1313&_nkw=407+abs+sensor&_sacat=0&_from=R40
i would allow around 3 hrs to fit both because the diesel tank will have to be lowered when replacing the rear sensor...
Also the old sensors tend to rust in the hubs which can make them very difficult to remove...

If you dpf is regenerating very often then is will be hard on diesel...i would'nt go replacing injectors unless i was sure they were faulty...A diesel leak off test can tell alot.

Does the cooling fan sometimes run on high speed when you park the car after a journey..?

So i would say for 2x abs sensors...2x drop links and brake pads all round parts would work out around €150 and say around 5 hrs work @ say €20 per hour...:)

Thanks again, as I said he said the injectors may or may not need doing - as far as I know I had one of them done last year and dont think it cost anything like that. Also had to have clutch done at the same time so I'm not exactly sure. Leaving the injectors ou do you have any idea what I should be expecting to pay for the rest?

Ok...so "diagnosis" is that I need
    1 injector
    1 front sensor
    1 rear sensor
    brakepads
    droplinks
    + oil change etc.

My next problem is that I noticed tonite that the heat does not seem to be working properly on drivers side, seems ok on passenger side...if this is going to be a big deal I can live without it being done for now because I wont need to have it done for NCT - haven't even had this prob checked out yet as I only noticed it tonight!!

    Any ideas?

Broken plastic flap inside the heater box. Common enough on the 407. Unfortunately it is a very big deal to sort out. An absolute pig of a job in fact.

Just a quick update......passed the NCT yesterday, got the jobs done and in addition had to put a new tyre on (just the one as the rest are at about 75% or so I'm told)

    1 injector
    1 front sensor
    1 rear sensor
    brakepads
    droplinks
    + oil change etc.
    Tyre

Total spend €395 so I was happy enough with that.
Am coping so far with not having heat on drivers side as passenger side is still working, was told by guy that did other stuff for me that it will be around €350 to fix!!

Just did a quick check this week on mpg - car has improved to about 46 mpg so I'm much happier with that. This was based on about 1/2 tank usage which I filled up again today (so long as I am calculating correctly - 540 km/32.9L ??)
Mixed driving, a lot of short hops around town along with 5 x 80km round trips.
