What is the 07 / 08 Grand Vitara 1.9 diesel like for mpg's?
Im hoping to get a commerical one.
Small bit of off road use but mainly motorway miles. It will not be used for towing.

How many miles will they do to a full tank of fuel?
    Thanks.

Don't do it I have a 06 ddis got her in '08, f###kin hate it. pig on diesel for a small 4x4.. 30ish mpg.. get roughly 120k per €20, all together, no power when you are overtaking. very little difference in fourth and fifth gear. plenty of space when seats are down or out but not comfortable for long drives. in fact it's hard on your back full stop. very plasticy inside and very flimsy bodywork
but only good thing I can say about it is it very good in snow or mud. It was fantastic in 2010 snow was ploughing through 10 to 12 inches of snow no bother
there are issues with diesel particle filter very expensive fix €2k ish if it needs to be replaced. it's supposed to last the life of vehicle but they weren't of irish conditions fuel type and driving style. also it requires a high grade expensive synthetic oil or it clogs the filter... look around there has to be something else will do what you need just don't buy yourself a long term toothache. she 's paid for in march and I'm counting the days.

Get somthing else. Woeful bag of slurry altogether. When the diesel pump dies, the transfer box cacks itself and whatever else injection related kicks in, you'll wish you did. Suzuki had a nap on these and let the sloppy lad down the back screw them up together.

It's very good in poor road conditions (snow) but how often do we get that. You have my deepest sympathies. My sentence is up on 6th March.

It's not just the US version. it world wide, its the diesel particle filter that has a tendency to go, it's part of the exhaust system, it catches the larger particles in the the smoke, it requires motorway driving (30mins @ 70kph) to burn the filter clean, but because of Irish driving tendencies we don't do that kind of driving, most irish driving is short relatively sub 50kph and improper engine oil which creates sticky blockages in the filter it can fail and **** up the engine.
Suzuki's attitude to the problem is the filter is designed to last the life of the vehicle. so it's end user fault
one option is to remove DPF out of the system altogether and replace section with standard exhaust pipe. its a lot cheaper than €3k

why not just blank it out all togeather

That's kind off what they are doing, as it's part of the exhaust system the part has to be removed which leaves you with a 45cm gap in the exhaust.
overall a pain in the bollix

if i was to take out DPF would it be a good jeep to buy for my wife. its an 08 with 60000 miles. seems spotless. good price aswell. cheers for ur info TRISKELL. no timing belt done so that needs attention also..full service history.........thanks pal

well I'd put it like this, they're are cheap for a reason. I won't be buying another one, even if they get the o2 emissions down for the cheaper tax, get something else. sportage, santa fe rav 4, xtrail.
mine has full service history with main dealer for all it's worth. it's still a bland pile of ****

looks like a pipe with small dots in it its orange

Thats the DPF light 30mins @ at least 70kph should be enough to clear it. mine comes on once a month i normally do 40/50 km on the motorway and it clears it, also stay a way from the cheap diesel it drives it mad, had to do the motorway run once a week. not cheap every bloody week

what oil do you use for service

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 423 ✭✭triskell

I'm using Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W 30 at moment. any of that type will do, but make sure it's low ash with an ACEAS 3 rating this is designed for the DPF type system.

i dropped in to a suzuki dealer in finglas and asked about the DPF. he agreed it was a problem and explained that u need motorway driving to clear it. use fully syntetic oil also. about 45 euro. they can tell you how blocked it is and flush it for a tidy sum of 300. they also do a 30 point check for free and give u the report. this may be handy. if the filter ****s up its around 1600 quid repair................
