Hi all I got a 2008 mondeo 1.8 Diesel saloon last year, As I am now self employed The tought just struck me today in five years or so time I might not have money to upgrade , And a car for us is a must have as we are in a very rural area with no buses etc, So I was thinking of changing every year say a 2209 this year a 2010 next year etc, So I would not have a huge layout at a later date. I have 74000 kms on this one Can anyone give me a ballpark figure of what I would need to pay to come up to 2009 model zetec

Thanks all and a happy new year to you

    That's a really bad plan.

Better to save the money for a change every few years.

You're paying someone's wages every time you change. Even if you were to change from a black 08 to a red 08 you'll spend a lot.

That did cross my mind mate, But I am in a position that money will probably not be saved, And my thinking is if I get two good jobs a year that pays say 1000 each, is it better to update the car and not have unexpected bills like turbos etc going on it, I paid 12,000 euro for this one with a trade in of a 2003 Chia mondeo with 120000 miles on it last march, It is unlikely that I will ever (short of winning the lotto) have 12000 to spend again on a car.

Do you plan on buying from garages or privately?

If he's a very good mate then it might be a runner.

That said, going on the figures he charged you to change, its possible that shopping around might make sense too.

Another option might be selling yours privately and then buying straight or importing from the uk yourself

I have the same car, 192k klms on it, no problems. TBH I wouldn't bother changing, there is a new model due soon, our models are going to take a big hit.

The old rule of thumb was €4k per year, unless you have mad mileage etc...

Unless you *want* to have a newish car then your plan makes no sense. Mondeo should do 300k without major mechanical breakdowns.
