Key trouble

    05 Toyota Avensis.

Walking home today (that wasn't the problem :D ). As soon as I got in range of the car it started flashing. I had trouble locking it again, but managed it eventually.

Just now I had to get something out of the car and couldn't lock it at all.

The key I think has been opened before, it was loose so I had a go and it popped open altogether. The little switch that joins to the circuit under the lock button has come loose from the circuit board.

Now I have repositioned the switch and put the key back together, and all buttons work fine.

The problem I had was I discovered that I couldn't lock the car by turning the key in the door itself  I locked the rear and passenger doors from inside and turned the key in the driver door and it wouldn't lock for me.

Why is this and how do I lock my car with the key itself should the circuit/switch fail me altogether?

    Thanks :)

Maybe the door or lock is off a different car.
Try the key in the boot lock.

You can lock the car by locking from the inside and closing a back door last.

You'd want to be sure you have a way back in though. Those 05 avensis usually don't have folding rear seats so getting in through the boot won't work. So if the wont lock manually, it probably won't unlock

You'd want to really trust the key to remote unlock.

    Try oiling the lock

The key works for the boot alright.

I locked both front doors and a rear door, left one open just in case, and the key electronically unlocked all three. So I tried locking all four doors like you said and electronically opened again.

When the car was fully locked the key wouldn't open the drivers door. Nor would it lock it again when open.

I'll give it a squirt of oil later on and see if that does any good.

    Pain in the backside.

I am just trying to think if there's a way I can reattach that switch or hold it in place. I know glue will feck up the circuit, but maybe something like blu-tac. Might end up making more of a mess than worth while.
