Not sure where you're going here as that CPU is LGA1156 and what you have is LGA1155. For a Streaming PC the i5-2500K should be more than enough, if not then overclock it. I don't think the extra 4 virtual threads of an i7 will make much difference over a 10 - 15% overclock.

Not a good idea it is a sideways move at best and you would have to buy a new motherboard?

If you are not already doing so then getting a good cooler and overclocking the i5-2500K is a much better option.

As for the GPU a HD6970 is still pretty good, what resolution do you play games at, how many screens do you have etc? From there I wouldn't be inclined to upgrade untill this years new GPUs are released myself.

This should get you started. I realise it's a 2600K but for all intents and purposes it's the same method.

Since you are just gaming at 1080p I think the GPU is not worth ugrading at the moment either.

Perhaps you could into at getting an decent sized SSD if you don't have one already? Would give a nice performance boost in everyday usage.

Get a good cooler and overclock the cpu.

4.8ghz should not be a problem with a half decent 2500k.

Asrock specific overclocking guide for sandys/Ivy's

It's rarely worth overclocking the ram. You won't get any noticeable gains from it.

My 2500k needs a little over 1.4 volts for 4.5 ghz
    I've tested in 2 motherboards.
It's not unusual for a 2500k to have trouble getting stable over 4.5 especially on air.
You probably shouldn't be advising 4.8 overclocks like it was the norm on air.
A small percentage of chips can do it.
