Lol, emachines, solid? Haha, good one.

CPU is the right socket, but you'll have to check the bios supports it.

    Ram is fine.

    Could need a 7mm SSD, thats a 10.

I have an e-machines 442 15.6 inch laptop and thinking of upgrading it. Its HD ready, just used for office and streaming and downloading an odd movie. It's a pretty decent solid laptop but feels like it needs an upgrade now. Only really lags with a lot of tabs open or multitasking. I have a PC for my main use. Laptop is around 2 years old

    Specs of my current laptop

    AMD V140 Processor 2.3 Ghz
    2GB RAM,
    250GB Hard drive.

Im thinking of upgrading to these parts -
    4GB RAM €17.58 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Crucial-Sodimm-Upgrade-204-pin-PC3-10600/dp/B003EVO878/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1358557134&sr=1-1 so will bring me to 6GB

    AMD Turion II Dual-Core Mobile 2.4 GHz P540 €16.82 - http://www.ebay.ie/itm/AMD-Turion-II-Dual-Core-Mobile-2-4-GHz-P540-Laptop-CPU-TMP540SGR23GM-/281041831320?pt=CPUs&hash=item416f660598

    SSD €48.41- http://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-64GB-Solid-State-Drive/dp/B007ZWLRSU/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1358556331&sr=8-15

I'm not 100% certain will that SSD fit the laptop though. Any thoughts or suggestions for improvement. Should see a solid improvement hopefully for 80 quid. Want to stick to under 100.

I have the very same laptop, bought it cheap with the intention of upgrading when I had more money - I needed a laptop at the time they were going cheap in DID I think. Ignore the post above, the laptop has served me well for the very type of usage you describe above. I also gave one to my parents, and their one is also still going strong, with 4gb RAM in that one (my spare 2gb after upgrading mine to 8gb)

Since I've gotten it, I've stuck 8gb RAM into it, and also a Samsung 840 250gb SSD more recently.

Raplacing the RAM and sticking in the SSD were easy operations, and improved the laptop.

yea got mine in DID for 280 or something at the time, Haven't bothered upgrading it as I mainly use a PC. They are a decent laptop, except for multitasking. Hopefully ram and SSD will improve, think I wont bother updating the processor
