    Hi everyone

My mother is looking to cut down on her sugar intake and is looking at using sweeteners, but is wondering if they're good or bad, The ones in particular are splenda and canderel

Personally I've heard more bad than good, done a bit of research for her but shes still not convinced, as they were mostly UK or american reviewers

So in short any opinions, advice or experiences with them is greatly appreciated

    Thanks

I haven't seen any human studies that show they are bad.

Inconclusive evidence. Rather than swapping why not gradually reduce sugar intake.

Beats me, Nothing as far as I know, I'll just tell her to cut down and stop worrying

I love sweeteners, 99c for it in Tesco. Put it in my oats for breakfast- does exactly what it's called. Can't rate it enough for a diet for a person with a sweet tooth.

    So?
I know it was a joke, but just because something isn't good doesn't automatically make it bad. People always try to polarise foods into good or bad. What's wrong with foods being neutral, offered no effect either way.

I have a small amout of sweetner in my diet from two sources. I don't believe it's good for me in any way, but I don't think it's bad, and definitely better than the equivalent amount of sugar.

    Nail. Head. Legend.

I try to avoid sweeteners as much as I can these days, but I'm a weak weak man.

Being a sugarholic i found that vanilla stevia has had a massive positive effect on my ongoing quest for a better body. I have one in my coffee and one on my oats. if i replaced stevia with the real deal id be off the wagon by lunchtime...so in my case...sweetener good!!
