    Folks,
I'm looking for a rear road bike wheel in Kildare. LBS can't help new ones are too wide, also if I change to the new wheel I have to chang the cassette and the chain. I'm only keeping as a second bike.
The present wheel has a bad hop and the freewheel is gone, shame as it's rather nice Mavic.
    Any help would be appreciated.

If the frame (and old wheel) are 126mm spacing and the frame material is steel then it can be easily stretched to accommodate a modern hub with 130mm spacing.

Was hoping not to do that, I'd have to replace everything and I don't have the money. But if I was how would I about it.

Assuming you're using frictions shifters you could throw on an 8 speed cassette and still use the rest of your 5, 6 or 7 groupset. If your existing chain is worn then you'll need a new chain as well but you'd need that anyway.

Also, I'm assuming the existing wheel is 700c rather than the old 27 1/4 size because if it is then you'll run into all sorts of problems when it comes to brakes and clearance and the like.

How would widen the dropouts without stressing the bike. It's an old bike and pretty much useless unless I can replace the wheel, so I,m open to experimentation
