What are the conditions like around the place, heavy rain and wind here in Wicklow - glad I have the treadie as an option for later.

Ha man up, we are hitting the track in Greystones tonight for a session as usual :P (well once it isnt flooded again!)

Either the condtions are really bad, or else I've turned into a wuss in the last couple of years. One way or the other, it's strong winds, rain, snow and poor visability in South Louth. I'm sticking to the treadmill.

Very wet, windy & cold but exhilarating in the Phoenix park at lunchtime :)

10k run around deansgrange / ballybrack at lunch time. Wet wet wet and windy. Found a puddle that went half way up my calf with no way to avoid it, soggy feet.

    Enjoyable though!

26 miles on wednesday + 13 Miles thursday = sitting in front of the fire enjoying a rest day tonight:D

Got to love it when a guilt free rest day coincides with weather like that:)

Second run of the day done (for a total of 11.5 miles). Not pleasant, but not impossible either. Thankfully, our entire office block lost power for the afternoon, so I got to head home in daylight. Conditions would have been particularly unpleasant in the dark.

12 miles on the treadie over 2 runs, generated my own flood and a little bit of wind also :o

27km LSR today around the Phoenix Park but at least it's done now!
Hailstones coming horizontally at you for 7km is not much fun!

It peaked at 41 degrees here on Thursday. It was still in the high 30's at 9-10pm at night. I was out in 39 for maybe 35 mins and it was hell.

driving rain and strong winds in Santry with large puddles all over the place. Did not meet one runner out:eek: First time I had the paths completely to myself! Not bad at all once you're out the door. Fun fun fun.. I love running in the rain:D Took a while to thaw out though

Agreed, was out at lunchtime today and it was hailstones and gales into my face , but it was awesome. Am out in Howth tomorrow morning, and am hoping for less rain (will take snow happily!) , BRING IT ON!

Howth in the morning sounds the business alright:D I seriously can't fathom why weather like we're having would put anyone off going for a run. Embrace it I say ;) Plus, it's great practice for sh1tty race day conditions.

10 miler from work to home this evening - a bit cross country like jumping fallen branches and wading through rivers on the paths and it made a good bed time story for my daughter :)

Today was a rest day but judging by the forecast tomorrow could be interesting in Cavan. or I could just hop on the treadmill... :)

You've turned into a wuss!! Why weren't you at the track for training tonight?!

Agreed. The funny thing I found this week was if you have important sessions lined up nothing will get in the way, if not then motivation can be harder come by. The back to back LSR's I ran this week were in really Sh**e weather, every bit as bad as today but I didn't think twice and really enjoyed them, the thought of going out today made me shudder.
Just hope it doesn't start freezing on top of all that rain and sleet now, paths could get messy very quickly!

Exactly. Not running is just not an option for me. Then it's easy. I just do it and have never ever regretted it.
bottom line is, if you want to do it you'll do it.

I had a lovely 9 mile jog from near town out to the point, on to clontarf and then back. Ok so the driving wind with ice particles were tough, but when would I otherwise get to see geese take off en-masse right in front of me and just hover?

Thank god I was upwind anyway as that could have ruined the run!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,454 ✭✭✭Clearlier

Snow here. Slid my way through just under 5 miles. Hopefully it will have cleared by tomorrow.

Anyone know what the roads U to Ticknock or Kilmashogue are like? I'd like to go up there tomorrow for a walk with the kids, but I don't want to end up stuck

A lot will depend on how hard it freezes tonight. But by way of example all the roads up around Sandyford, Stepaside, Kilternan were completely clear tonight. Not sure if there's much more than a sprinkle of snow in the most accessible areas though

If your kids are looking for snow then think about about Curtlestown and up the Wicklow Way towards Ravens Rock. As of this morning the road out to Curtlestown was clear but once you went above the barrier it started with two inches of snow bur was at least eight inches up by Ravens Rock - great fun for sledding, snowmen or even a good old snowball fight :D

I was up Kilmashogue this morning, zero ice or snow to car park. But then 4 to 6 inches of white stuff 1km up the fireroad. I'll be back up there in the morning, it's 5 minutes from mine, PM me your number and I'll give you the state of play in the morning.

I recall people on here running in icy weather a couple of years ago and injuring themselves and missing goal races as a result. Don't be silly, keep on the side of caution and learn from the mistakes others have made. A missed session or two is better than a missed season. If the weather is really bad make use if the time by doing extra work on core.

For the record we had 41 degrees the other day in Melbourne. Nit much fun either I have to say.

Ideal running conditions up on Fairy Castle this morning! Is this anyone from Boards?

I agree, ideal conditions. Low temps mean good running on the trails down by me that are normally slippy after rain. Really enjoyed the run yesterday morning and this morning. Will post a pic soon.

Might be less busy tomorrow, but I tried to get up to ticknock this afternoon and it was like rush hour. Car park was full, but the road was fine as far as I got, before I had to do a u-turn, due to the traffic. Barnacullia/Ballyedmunduff roads were the same...

Tried sending you a couple of texts today with the situation but don't seem to have gone! Yeah, it was busy up Kilmashogue, was out for about 3.5 hours walking round, lovely once you get away from the crowds!

No worries. Quite strange though as the number is right. I only managed to get out of the car once and that was to help a bloke who was stuck :D

I parked in Taylor's car park and did the Dublin Mountain Way loop. Very runnable except for about 1KM on the ascent to Fairy Hill from Tibradden where you sink in snow up to the knees.

Yesterday did a lovely 11ish miles through the snow of Wales and up and down hills, today I had the footpaths to myself around Bristol as nobody else dared to run on the ice. Yaktracks are fantastic and a big improvement from the screws and cheese graters on shoes from previous years, in that they fit on any footwear apart from anything else.

Eoinin, I think this is one of my favourite running pics in a long time. You've really captured a scene here.
