6 month/12 month warranty.

Some garages give 6 month warranties as a general rule whereas some give 12 months. Wondering if, when negotiating, it's always best to try to negotiate 12 months and whether or not you think it's fair or necessary to play hard-ball and push for it and important to get 12?

Taking a car that's just 2 to 3 years old for example with low mileage (less than 50k miles) does the difference between 6 & 12 really make much odds? And if not should the garage just be inclined to give you the 12?

I wouldn't be inclined to let it be a dealbreaker but interested to hear everyones thoughts...

Obviously 12 months is better than 6 if you can get it as part of the deal? 6 months wouldn't fill me with confidence anyway. I'd assume anything with a 6 month warranty, be it a car or a fridge, isn't expected to last very long. Things can go wrong with cars regardless of age, 12 is worth fighting for.

Depends on the situation really. Fight for 12 months anyway. Its certainly a major plus.

If it's a modern diesel I'd be gunning for a 12 month warranty. Especially based on the cost of the cars you posted recently in another thread.

Don't think theres much movement on things like warranty it is usually there policy to offer certain warranties on their stk they would sooner knock money off price

Exactly, I feel like they should be willing to go 12 given the amount of dosh we're talking here...

That's what I thought alright, but it does make me uneasy I have to say. They are all about how the car is tip-top etc. but whatever their reasons may be for only giving 6, it comes of as if they aren't willing to back the claims [about the car] up.
