Been a good few years since i went but it was roasting alright without being uncomfortable. There isnt that much to do over there to be honest after a couple of days but if chilling out and going to the beach is your thing then it would be perfect. Beautiful place. Rent bikes good for bonding and good craic and the countryside all seems beautiful out there on bikes. The campsites are good as well.

Thank you, going with group of friends and their families so should be fun providing weather is good, finding it hard to get accommodation though.

Ile de Ré is a major summer destination for the French, and that's the start of the holiday season here, so accommodation will be scarce and expensive. The weather is generally "pretty hot" but wasn't this year. By French standards it was "miserable" but these are folk that put their anoraks on when the temperature drops below 21° :) so by Irish standards it was still okay for a summer.

As shaneoreillyo says, there's not really anything to *do* there - it's geared up for the French market where the main holiday activity is sitting around talking and eating. I've got children in the 12-17 age bracket and I wouldn't take them there - there are so many more exciting places to spend a day/week/fortnight.

Also the bridge to the island is a toll bridge, so you've got to pay for every day trip to somewhere more interesting.

Unless you cycle - I don't think there is any toll then. We have been there several times with our young family in a campervan. If you want to just relax it is heavenly - loads of dedicated flat cycle paths through the fields to get to various towns and beaches. It is mainly a French resort which gives it an authentic feel and the people are very friendly, especially if you have a few words of French. St Martin is the main town and is reasonably busy but outside of that it is a very quiet island. You do always have the option of crossing over the bridge to Rochelle if you want a bit more action. As mentioned though it's a toll journey unless you cycle (and it takes about 30 minutes just to cycle across the amazing bridge).

Weather will probably be quite hot especially in the middle of the day. In mornings and evenings there is often a light breeze though.
