    Ok, the next generation of consoles is imminent (WiiU doesn't count).

    I have a HD 7850 and I find myself in a predicament. Do I;

    - Get another 7850 and a new crossfire capable mobo.
    - Wait for the next generation of GPU's. Preferably one that will laugh in the face of say a 7970.

    ?

    What do you fine persons of the interwebs think?

    Stick with the 7850 and wait for the next gen of cards.

    The 8950 and 8970 won't see the light of day until around June-July though and will most likely be priced around the €400-500 region and are rumored to be only 30% or so more powerful than this gen. At least until Nvidia release their cards a month or 2 after and there may be some price adjustments.

    What resolution are you gaming at?

    Have you overclocked your 7850 at all?

    What model is it?

    You might get some big gains by upgrading to a cheap 7950 and overclock the crap out of it.

    Not seeing enough improvement in overclocking to be keep the overclock settings. HIS HD 7850 GDDR5 2048MB.
    Running games at 1080p.

    So, we're not going to see anything drastic in terms of GPUs for a couple of years?

    Nope, unlikely to see big gains until the next die shrink.

    You never know what other improvements they will come up with though so I'd wait it out and see what ati and nvidia have up their sleeves for the next gen.

    If you really want to upgrade now then a second 7850 is probably a good idea. You should get near 90% improvement to your current frame rates. I'm not sure if micro stuttering is an issue anymore but it's worth looking in to.
